Many Tea Pots!

My Grandmother in law has been collecting tea pots, displaying them on a shelf in her kitchen. Awesomely, she offered to give me some of her tea pots the next time I visit. Back in August, my husband’s family and I drove out to Utah to see her for her 90th birthday. I brought home two boxes full of tea pots! It took me a couple months to unpack the tea pots as I had no space to display them. For Christmas 2014, my dad bought me a spiffy new shelf from IKEA to display all my tea goodies. With that… Continue reading, hoot!

Tiny Yixing Tea Pot

When you think “tea pot” how big is it? I did a quick amazon search and the top tea pots are Gravity Steepers, 16oz (475ml ish), with a bunch of tea pots ranging from 700ml (23oz) to 1200ml (42oz). Search “Small teapot” and you’ll get 2 cup/500ml/16 oz sized tea pots. PSSSHHHHHH, that isn’t small. This is small. 40ml (1.35oz) small. US quarter coin for scale. I’ve noticed tea shops tend to sell tiny tea pots like this pretty expensive. I’ve done a bit of visual arts way back in art school and yes, making stuff smaller can take just as… Continue reading, hoot!

Tea House Tea Pet – Joseph Wesley Black Tea

Tea Pets – the coolest thing to have on your tea table next to the trusty Oolong Owl Tea Owl. I have one tea pet, purchased on Ebay. It seems tea pets have been easier to find these days thanks to the ease of purchasing things internationally with ebay and Aliexpress, but otherwise tea pets are hard to find, even moreso from a US seller. Joseph Wesley black tea, besides having amazing black teas and gorgeous tea chawans, they have a tea pet – a Tea House! Mine is unglazed and all white, but at Joseph Wesley black tea you can get your Tea House with… Continue reading, hoot!

World Market Cost Plus Tea Ware Haul – Owl Mugs, Infusers and Coasters!

I love World Market Cost Plus – they have a bunch of stores in my area as well as an online shop! I tend to shop at this store for holiday gifts as they have a neat range of interesting toys, international foods, decor, bath stuff and clothes. Their kitchen section is really nice and World Market has lots of tea ware (and teas)! They also have lots of OWL GOODIES! HOOT! I bought a bunch of stuff online for Christmas gifts, but I also got a bunch of owl stuff for myself. I’ve purchased from World Market before for… Continue reading, hoot!

Oolong Owl’s Essential Loose Leaf Tea Ware Guide

One question I see often on tea forums is along the lines of “I want to get into loose leaf tea, what tea ware do I need?” or “My loved one drinks bagged tea and I want to get them loose leaf tea ware, what do I buy?” This question, I feel, has multiple answers since people want to drink tea for different reasons or have tea ware items that would be better suited to their life style. I drink a lot of loose leaf tea, like 6 cups+ a day, mostly solo or on the go. I have a crazy… Continue reading, hoot!

Bamboo Tea Trays – Teaware review

Since my first wooden Tea Tray has be MIA for needing a good sanding and treatment, I’ve been on the lookout for a bamboo tray instead. Bamboo Tea Trays are more popular of a find, though there are stone and metal tea trays too. To be honest, I was tempted to purchase a metal tea tray – they are really cheap on Aliexpress (~$20) and large but are more functional than attractive. I could see myself buying a metal tea tray for myself, but for blogging pictures it would look pretty cold. Anyways, as the bargain hunter I am, I scored a… Continue reading, hoot!

Pretty Rice Pattern Gaiwans!

Yes, I have successfully acquired a pair of rice grain pattern gaiwans! I’ve seen a few of these interesting gaiwans in use at the World Tea Expo. Bana Tea Company was using a gorgeous one at the LA International Tea Festival. None were for sale at either venue, sadly. I wanted a rice pattern gaiwan sooooo bad as see through stuff is cool, plus they seem uncommon. Challenge #1 – finding a rice pattern gaiwan. I’ve been searching through google/ebay/aliexpress. Sellers call them different things, often not even mentioning the style and lumping it under “gaiwan”, “cup”, and “teapot”. In the end, I spent an afternoon… Continue reading, hoot!

Korean Tea Cups from Hankook Tea

I’ve been questing for Korean Tea cups with infusers for awhile now. Every time I see a character in a Korean Drama drink out of one I’m like “OOooh, pretty – I need one of those!” Annoyingly, these tea cups are a little hard to find and when you do find them, they are not cheap. Paying $30+ for a small tea cup makes me cry. Anyways, I saw on Hankook Teas‘ site, who sell Korean Teas (and ship from California!), that they have Korean tea cups! Even better is that they aren’t too pricey, some under $20. With that said,… Continue reading, hoot!

Oolong Owl’s Ru Kiln Travel Gaiwan

I’m starting to think you can never have too many gaiwans. Ever since hearing about the Ru Kiln glaze I wanted some kind of tea ware with it. I’ve seen said glaze before on tea ware, but I didn’t put two to two together that the glaze’s cracks get more obvious with tea drinking use. Like the yixing pot, I like the idea that my teaware can change over time – though with the Ru Kiln glaze tea ware, the change is more appearance than flavor. With that said, I’ve been looking awhile for this type of glaze on a… Continue reading, hoot!

Pu’er Breaking Tray – Oolong Owl Tea Ware Review

Awhile back on Steepster, someone recommended a pu’er breaking tray. I’ve seen them all over Ebay and some online tea shops, but I was unsure if it was worth the $15 to $25 for one. I mean, its just a coaster looking thing. After some messy pu’er pickings, ripped up pu’er wrappers and Teal “pu’er pick” Owl stabbing me a few times by accident, I decided to keep my eye out for one at a decent price. I considered trying to find something with a similar shape and having my husband saw off the edge. With my last Mandala Tea order,… Continue reading, hoot!
