Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser – Oolong Owl Teaware review

I got a Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser for christmas, yay! Novelty tea infusers entertain me. I feel like I want to collect them, but at the same time I feel they are probably subpar compared to my current tea set up.

Apparently, at least on the amazon listing for  Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser, you can get the same style of tea infuser, but in a frog, climber, diver, monkey, rocket and the Queen forms. There is also an axe tea infuser – I think that one should only be used for hibiscus teas! MUAHAHAHA! Anyways, there’s lots of styles to suit your fancy or have a good laugh.

The Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser is a little stiff in the arms to move. It also took me awhile to realize I can also move the hands, which are important in making the robot be able to sit in your cup comfortably.

Popping open the infuser is easy,  however it is a little fiddy once open as the two sides are held together by a metal ring at the base. The holes seem kind of big and not many of them. With that said, this robot won’t be brewing rooibos anytime soon. I’m guessing this robot only wants high voltage teas anyways.

I added 1.5 teaspoons of tea, a green tea blend, which seemed to be a tight squeeze on the one side of the infuser. I don’t think you’d want to add more tea than that.

When I picked up the infuser, the smaller tea bits escaped.

Time for the robot bath!

Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser is really fun! Look at the robot chill in the tea cup!

Or is he peeing in the pool?

It looks like he did an okay job at keeping the leaves at bay. I don’t have a twiggy tea, so whatever is floating isn’t that bad.

How does the tea from the Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser taste? The flavor is kinda weak when I know it shouldn’t be. There are a few culprits here –

1. I couldn’t cover my mug very well to ensure I had my water temperature staying hot for longer.

2. Opening up the Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser, the tea is pretty jammed and unopened.

To use the tray he needs to be face down, or his head will leak out like a crime scene! The tray is really small though – I’d prefer to use a small plate and give the little tray to the Tea Owls to serve snacks on.

In the end, the Kikkerland Robot Tea Infuser is fun to use and laugh at. It is a great conversation piece. As a useful daily use tea infuser? Sorry guys, just stick to a brew basket style of tea infuser that won’t leak out leaves and has more room for the tea to open and release flavor. I’ll probably use this infuser to decorate my teaware shelf, or let guests use it if they express interest in it.
