Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea from Teavive – Tea Review

Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea is an April 2014 harvest green tea from Huangshan Mountain, Anhui Province, China. This handmade tea is sold by Teavivre, online tea seller based in China.

Tai Ping Hou Kui green teas seem to of slipped under my radar – I’ve seen this green tea sold at various tea sellers, but in the photographs I thought it was a dragonwell and skipped it. Tai Ping Hou Kui green teas in photos really need to show the scale of the leaf – I didn’t know how impressive this tea was until seeing it in person – it looked like dragonwell on steroids from far away, but up close the leaf is even more impressive. Let’s closely inspect Teavivre‘s Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea.

Tasting of Teavivre’s Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea

First Infusion: I ended up going with a 1.5 minute steeping, that came up to be a gorgeous faint yellow cream colour tea with a sweet grass scent.

Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea sips in a with an awesomely smooth mouth feel. The flavor notes throughout the sip are lightly creamy, sweet grass, straw, and cider. I love the cider notes – it’s got a fruity vibe with a soft tang that is really different. Quite unique of a taste compared to other popular green teas, especially with the cider notes. Very delicious! With this first steeping, Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea has a smooth exotic sophisticated feel to it.

I love this photo:

Second infusion: 2.5 minute steeping. Interestingly with this resteep I got a completely different flavor. Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea has a bit of a wild feel to it now. The tea, though still a smooth sip, has a stronger vegetal and grass notes of bok choi, complete with that fresh crispyness.

Third infusion: 4 minute steeping. The flavor of Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green Tea has shifted again, though I can tell the flavor has significantly waned. I’m tasting mostly the sweet hay and cider notes, but very little in grassy flavor. Each sip finishes off quite sweet.

After three infusions the leaves are even bigger!

Cold Steeped: I did a cold brew of Nonpareil Cha Wang Tai Ping Hou Kui Green and left it in the fridge for 8 hours. It came out light in flavor with plenty of sweet grass and a green bean vegetal flavor.
