A Quarter to Tea – Tea Review

Today’s tea review are teas from A Quarter to Tea, an online etsy shop. Admittedly, I got a soft spot for etsy sellers, since I am one myself as I sell crochet critters and patterns. I have four A Quarter to Tea teas and I’ll be reviewing two today, and the other two soon. For today’s review I selected fall themed teas. Little Orange Tea Owl is here in a pretty simple Halloween costume. Apple Almond Spice Cake Black Tea This black tea blend is a limited edition! The dry leaf is organic nilgiri black tea, hojicha, chicory, clover and chunky almonds, shattered cinnamon sticks… Continue reading, hoot!

October White2tea club – Tea Review

Yeah October White2Tea Club time! I got at my monthly tea clubs late since I was out of town for the beginning of the month. This month is an interesting mix of teas – 2006 Gongting Shou 100 gram cake, two 9 gram 2013 Lincang Area sheng orbs, and a ripe pu’er stuffed in a tangerine. I’m going to review the Gongting and Lincang now. I got a number of messages asking me to review the pu’er orange but that’ll be another post. Of the club teas this month, the 2006 Gongting shou 100 gram cake is available for purchase. Club members… Continue reading, hoot!

Tie Guan Yin Black Tea from Sanne Tea – Tea Review

Hmmm, a Tie Guan Yin Black Tea? That sounds pretty different, sign this owl up! This tea is experimental and processed in smaller batches, made by a second generation tea master. This black tea is from Sanne Tea, online seller of farm to cup Taiwanese Teas. My sample is from September 2014. I like the information listed on the sample, especially the oxidation and roasting level. Dry Leaf Tie Guan Yin Black tea’s leaf looks like matte black ribbons with the odd brown or gold tip. The leaf has a sweet honey scent. Steeping Instructions I didn’t completely follow the steeping instructions on the sample.… Continue reading, hoot!

2005 Rocket Yiwu Sheng Pu’er from White2tea – Tea Review

The 2005 Yiwu Rocket was originally in the July White2Tea club as a sample. I didn’t review it in July as I was more in awe of drinking a giant mushroom pu’er. Then the requests starting coming in – “OMG where’s the Yiwu Rocket review!” Okay, okay, yeah I heard you all – here’s the White2Tea 2005 Rocket Yiwu sheng pu’er review! So what I love about the White2Tea club is being able to sample new teas they are selling, however it has also gotten me into more trouble. I tried the sample. I then promptly finished my sample and ordered… Continue reading, hoot!

Oolong Owl’s Hooty Tea Travels – Park City Utah October 2015

I recently got back from Utah. My Mother-in-law, Grandmother-in-law and I went up to Park City Utah for a week and stayed at my GIN’s timeshare in a mountain resort just below the ski lifts. Park City is the location for the Sundance Film Festival, 2 ski resorts, and was major locations of the 2002 Winter Olympics. However, I was in Park City in October, in between the major tourist seasons so there wasn’t much going on besides a whole lot of construction/repair and seasonal residents coming back for ski season. You can see all the grassy ski hills! Park City… Continue reading, hoot!

The Awesome Ebay Find – Yixing tea set

I was poking around Ebay for tea pets and somehow found a listing for a yixing tea set. To my surprise, it was just up for bid from a US seller. The pictures were vague as it was just the set in the box and the information was lacking as there were no measurements or volumes listed. I messaged the seller for more information and after 3 rounds of questions I still didn’t get the answers I was looking for. I first asked “What size is the tea pot and cups?” and the seller answered how big the cups were. I then asked… Continue reading, hoot!

Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin from 52 Teas – Tea Review

Today’s review is 52 Teas’ Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin – everything about this flavored tea sounds amazing! I got this tea with the last 52 Teas kickstarter, which was the one for the 52 Teas management change. I’m pretty happy so far as Anne has been using more interesting tea bases. 52 Teas has a new kickstarter for the Christmas teas and they all look amazing. One caught my eye the most is “Peppermint Marshmallow Melting in Hot Chocolate” as it uses a Verdant Tea as a black tea base (OMG YES). If that tea blend doesn’t catch your eye, Gingerbread… Continue reading, hoot!

No. 03 Classic Chinese Black Tea from Joseph Wesley Black Tea – Tea Review

Everything I tried from Joseph Wesley Black tea has been excellent, I can’t recommend them enough if you are a black tea lover. A couple good tea friends have told me No. 03 Classic Chinese black tea is a really good one from Joseph Wesley. When I ordered the Qimen, I sneaked in a tin of Classic Chinese black tea. Of course with Joseph Wesley, their teas have an awesome modern design that I love. Enclosed leaflet with the tea. Dry Leaf Classic Chinese Black features delicate and wiry black tea leaf with the rare golden tip. The dry leaf is… Continue reading, hoot!

The $5 Aliexpress Yixing Tea Pot

Actually, I paid $4.59. I was looking at the insanely cheap “yixing” tea pots on Aliexpress. At $4.59, this was the cheapest one I found. I thought my $7.00 40ml one was cheap, but noooo this 120ml was even cheaper! I decided to purchase the cheap tea pot for science. Hey, maybe this pot might be alright. All fails, I can display it to look all fancy. All my yixing tea pots I pack into little boxes and hide them in cupboards to keep them safe from earthquakes and my clumsy butt hitting the tea shelf. The tea pot arrived… Continue reading, hoot!

September White2Tea Club – Qilan Oolongs!

Ooooh, another fun month with the White2Tea Club. When is the White2tea club not fun or an adventure? This month is three teas, Qilan Trees, Qilan Fire, and a 5 year aged Dahongpao brick. All oolongs, hoot! The Qilan Trees and Fire are new oolong offerings at the White2Tea shop, so being in the monthly tea subscription is nice as I get to sample the oolongs. Close up of the DHP! I’m going to drink the Qilan oolongs. As much as I want to do side by side, I’m going to drink them separately this month. SoCal has been blistering… Continue reading, hoot!
