April 2018 White2Tea Club feat. Sparrow Tongue and Ganlu

This is the dreaded fresh green tea month of the White2Tea club. Green teas are not my thing, I much prefer young sheng, low oxidized oolongs, or matcha, as all of those teas give me more bang for my buck.  My personality also includes the more I dislike or am picky about something, the more I put up with less crap tea. Surprisingly, no there is Dragonwell this year, but instead, White2Tea went to Sparrow’s Tongue and Ganlu. I think that is a nice change of pace, especially to show more puer leaning people other green teas. Since I got… Continue reading, hoot!

Material Matcha Uji MMU03 Blend & Kickstarter

Material Matcha Uji is a new matcha seller with a twist – they have handcrafted 3 different matchas, blended with various Uji varietals, which makes for different flavor profiles. This isn’t the first time I’ve come across blended matcha, but the first time to have a tea vendor go into more detail. Since I do a lot of matcha reviews, I’ve learned matcha has many flavor profiles, yet no way to distinguish anything as no one talks varietals. I’ve had matchas that were potent, sweet, fruity, more umami, and even floral. The most information I see on matcha is the region, usually Uji.… Continue reading, hoot!

Love Some Tea – Northern Thailand Tea

I don’t do many of these flavored tea reviews these days unless the tea is unique. What first caught my eye of Love Some Tea is their use of Northern Thailand tea as their base. Investigating further, Love Some Tea’s tea is also wild picked and fair trade. Second, they have exotic flavoring in their line up, plus unflavored tea. I have the entire tea line up to review, so let’s get to it. Tasting of Love Some Tea Green Teas – All steeped western style at 175F/80C water temperature for 2 minutes. Kind Green – This is Love Some Tea’s… Continue reading, hoot!

Matcha Ninja Cold Brew Matcha

If you follow my matcha reviews, I can be pretty unforgiving about matcha. Honestly, the concept of “Cold Brew Matcha” was a laugh to me. There is nothing stopping anyone from just adding matcha powder to ice water and call it cold brewed. There is no brewing time with matcha, it is already ground up and an instant product. I drink cold matcha all the time when I’m lazy, it is hot, or I got crappy matcha, as cold brings out the sweetness. I came across Matcha Ninja, who makes cold brew matcha, and had a question for them. I… Continue reading, hoot!

Cusa Tea – Premium Instant Tea Review

I came across Cusa Tea at the World Tea Expo. I was reluctant to try as instant tea is generally not that great, and I’ve had a few run ins with other instant tea sellers who disliked my review as they claimed their tea is better than loose leaf tea (like whaaaat?). I had a sample as was actually pretty impressed with Cusa Tea’s product, which is fast tea for people on the go. What sets Cusa Tea apart from the other instant teas is the material is all USDA organic. They also use a different method to instant their tea by… Continue reading, hoot!

May 2017 White2Tea Club feat. Fresh Lincang

Ooooh, finally it is 2017 tea time! May 2017 White2Tea club is Lincang Fresh Green and Puer Maocha. Both teas are the same material and farmer, but processed differently. As much as I wanted to drink these side by side, rolling two different temperatures would of drive me crazy. I own two kettles, but that also requires me to clear room in my cluttered tea space. 2017 Lincang Fresh Green Tea I went low temperature rocking 175F/79c, going high on leaf for a green – 1 gram for 15ml vessel size. The hot leaf smells quite fruity, like chewing gum.… Continue reading, hoot!

Purple Leaf Tea from Justea

Purple tea is starting to pop up everywhere. Purple tea is a curious tea it is Camellia Sinensis Assamica with a purple mutation changing the colour of the leaf to purple. I tried it a couple times (World Tea Expo 2016 and North West Tea Festival Seattle) and had a couple purple leaf puer cakes without thinking about it. Though apparently there are different purple teas, and this particular Purple Leaf Tea from Justea is grown in Kenya. But what sets the Justea Purple Leaf Tea apart is the unusual colour. Dry Leaf and Steeping Instructions The leaf is an interesting dark colour with a… Continue reading, hoot!

SAKU Tea Superfood Latte Blends

SAKU Tea is a tea bar located in Bellingham, WA that I keep meaning to visit. Their tea bar has a large tea menu, as well as some unique tea lattes. They also host events and workshops. What the Tea Owls and I are tasting today is their Superfood Latte Blends line – Maca Cocoa Jade, Vanilla Maple Jade, Ruby Cocoa, Ruby Ginger, Golden Orange, and Golden Chai. These latte blend bases are made with either matcha, beet, or turmeric, and they are all organic. SAKU tea started a Kickstarter to ramp up production and volume of their Superfood latte teas.… Continue reading, hoot!
