My recent White2tea club reviews are out of order due to wanting to drink the December’s XXXmas tea near Christmas. Backtracking, today is the 2019 November White2tea club’s 2019 B_S_, a 50 gram high-end mini cake of 4 different regions with a mix of spring and fall.
I love these 50 gram club months as they tend to be quality tea and with month, in particular, promising to be complex.
Leaf and Steeping Method
The leaves smell like crusted sweet tree syrup.
As usual, I used 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size gongfu ratio, steeped in boiling water. When steeped up, the leaves smell like steamed rice with a finish of apple cider vinegar tartness.
Tasting of 2019 November White2Tea Club’s 2019 B_S_ Sheng Puer
First and Second Infusion: The texture is pipe clogging thick to drink with a heavy layered feel in the mouth. B_S_’s flavor is strangely gently broccoli stalks with looming floral notes. A few sips I was convinced were Elmer’s glue but I settled on broccoli. Taking my time, this tea shows a slow creep to a powerful aftertaste that a stale peachy floral with an intensity of potpourri flower bowl left for a few weeks.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth Infusion: 2019 B_S_ Sheng Puer sips in with a cabbagey bitterness of broccoli leaves. This bitterness could turn off some, but it’s in a good spot for me as it adds some character. After the wave of bitterness comes to a strong stale jasmine floral blend.
Sixth and Seventh Infusion: The fifth infusions are very bitter but less cabbage like, but if you wade through the B_S_, there’s a lovely floral quality to it. B_S_ has a blend of flowers and it tastes excellent that this session is taking way longer than it should.
Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Infusion: After working through the storm, 2019 B_S_ Sheng Puer is light tasting but has an excellent aftertaste of floral that sticks to the mouth and rises up the nose. There is a light dryness, making my teeth feel a bit gritty. The last infusion had no flavor left and I got a slight gut rot.
Comments
2019 B_S_ Sheng Puer from the 2019 November White2tea Club is a weird tea to get my head around, but it has a bitter profile but the complexity in the aftertaste of a blend of floral. This tea definitely has the label of “have puer experience under your belt” as the bitterness might throw some off.
This is another tea to lock up and try again in a few months or years to see how it goes. I did wait almost 3 months to try mine so it has settled out of the watery notes.
