Adagio Teas’ Green Rooibos Blends

After my Will It Tea Egg stunt, I started to question my Hibiscus consumption. I need a caffeine-free tea that I can drink iced in the evening. I don’t know how some of you can drink a vat of puer then go to bed because if I drink tea after 3-5pm I am not sleeping well that night. My body can only handle 1 or 2 tea benders a month, and I save that for tea conventions, festivals, and gatherings.

That said, let’s try some stuff Adagio Teas sent me. I got Green Rooibos Bonita and Green Rooibos Key West. I am happy it is Green Rooibos, as Red Rooibos is on my short list of tea types I hate as it tastes like lawn mulch to me.

Adagio Teas’ Green Rooibos Bonita

This tea contains Green Rooibos, orange peels, marigold flowers, strawberries, with peach, strawberry, and orange flavoring. The dry leaf smells on the orange side.

I made all my teas iced with 5 grams of tea with around 400ml mix of ice and water. I use the DavidsTea Tea Press as it does iced tea very effortlessly.

Iced: Green Rooibos Bonita is crisp and fruity. I can certainly taste the strawberry the most with a background of crisp grassy green rooibos flavor. The aftertaste I get a bit of orange, but I don’t taste the peach. The more I drink, the more I taste the orange flavor. The tea overall is light, fruity, and refreshing. It is decently natural tasting fruit without any bitterness.

Sweetened: I hated this sweetened, it just didn’t translate well as the tea is on the lighter side. It just tastes like sugar water with the orange popping a bit more.

I found Bonita to be reliably tasty. This is a good kid tea and you can’t go wrong with orange strawberry. I like this one over the other rooibos as it leans more natural tasting in the added flavoring.

Adagio Teas’ Green Rooibos Key West

This one is made of Green Rooibos, marigold flowers, orange peels, mango pieces, with passionfruit, mango, and apricot flavor. The scent is artificial fruity.

Iced: Green Rooibos Key West tastes tropically busy. It is also pretty light tasting, with the grassy background of the rooibos. The fruity flavor is all over the place. I can taste the passionfruit mango combo, with a bit of tart from the orange. I didn’t get orange in the last tea, so maybe luck of the draw I got more orange peel this time. The passionfruit isn’t soapy and it is quite refreshing as well.

Sweetened: I didn’t like Green Rooibos Key West sweetened. It got more mango in flavor with the sugar but the flavor came out artificial tasting to me. This rooibos is best unsweetened as it is sweet enough on its own.

Comments

I found both Green Rooibos Bonita and Green Rooibos Key West were heavy on the fruity flavoring over the base. I found the flavoring level a bit jarring, as in my early drinking days when I drank more Adagio Teas, I found their flavoring lighter compared to other big tea sellers.  I’ve noticed with these teas and recent ones, they are getting stronger on the flavoring, maybe to entice the old Teavana people. Either way, if you prefer non-sugared teas, both the green rooibos teas here were great without any sweetener and made for decent iced tea. The search continues!
