Afternoon Loose Leaf Oolong Tea is a handpicked A Li Shan Oolong from Taiwan. This oolong is sold by teascent, a UK based online tea seller.
First off – yea, I got my troutie bag! There is something just crazy weird yet awesome about this tote bag.
It is perfect for carrying your Tea Owl and a couple large tea tins!
Dry Leaf
Tightly rolled, lushly dark green tea here that is lightly scented of butter and grass.
Steeping Instructions
I followed teascent’s brewing method for loose leaf. I steeped 3grams of tea with boiling water for 3 minutes. With each resteep, I added 1 minute.
The cup came out a lovely pale yellow with the scent of buttery and floral.
Tasting of Afternoon Loose Leaf Oolong
Very flavorful! Afternoon Loose Leaf Oolong Tea sips in light and buttery, developing a stronger flavor (moderate-strong intensity) of more intense buttery flavor and creamy texture, along with a fresh herbal note. The contrast between buttery and fresh is very nice. I also find the flavor interesting for a green oolong as it is fairly strong in flavor, but yet not grassy in quality. There is a vegetal herbyness that is savory instead of grassy. There is no floral, bitterness or dryness in this steeping.
Second Infusion: This steeping came out a touch sweeter without a buttery flavor, but with the full creamy texture.
Third Infusion: The final steeping of Afternoon Loose Leaf Oolong Tea! The flavor has gotten much lighter, with just a little bit of herb flavor and sweetness. The creamy texture is still there, that lingers on the lips. However, a slight dryness appeared, 1/10 on the Astringe-o-meter.
The leaf really expanded, boom!
Overnight Cold Steeping: I added some leaf to a travel tea tumbler full of filtered water and let it sit overnight in the fridge. Afternoon Loose Leaf Oolong Tea‘s flavor here is much different than the hot brewing. The flavor is moderate in level and is quite vegetal sweet with buttery notes. There is a slight floral here, say a 1/10 on the Floral-o-meter, but most the flavor is a buttered green bean taste.
Comments
Afternoon Loose Leaf Oolong Tea is a lovely, strong flavored green oolong. This oolong would be a favorite to a green tea drinker or for someone wanting a non-floral green oolong.
This oolong would be perfect to pair with a light lunch! I quite liked the strong flavor of Afternoon Loose Leaf Oolong Tea, which I think would be, like its name, a great afternoon tea to perk up your day.
