It’s August! For me August means as busy month as I will be overwhelmed with pomegranates from my tree and my tea hating husband’s birthday! Also, with a new month I get another Simple Loose Leaf Selection Tea Club box! I got to say, Simple Loose Leaf has great timing on shipments as I tend to get my box on the first or second business day of the month!
If you are new to Simple Loose Leaf,
- Each month you get to choose from a selection of 5 teas. You may also select the option of sampling all 5 teas, or choose 2 you like. Each tea is 1 to 2 oz, or for the sampler, a 4 oz sampler pack.
- Within the 5 teas, Simple Loose Leaf aims to have a good variety to choose from, straight teas, blends and a herbal.
- Simple Loose Leaf also gives you a preview of the teas for the following month and lets you also get a 6 gram sample to try ahead of time.
By the way, a coupon code for you: OWLSELECTION25 for a 25% discount when you sign up for Simple Loose Leaf’s Selection Club!
I got to say, August Simple Loose Leaf Selection Club was a good one. I had a really hard time choosing this month – 3 teas I really wanted, but I didn’t want to get the sampler. This month, the selection was Jasmine Special Green, Lady Earl Grey, Blueberry White, Milk Oolong and Honeybush Herbal.
I also selected a sample from next month’s box: Assam FTGFOP
Tasting of August Simple Loose Leaf Selection Club’s Blueberry White Tea
Yum, I love blueberries and Blueberry White Tea has a nice blueberry scent with real blueberries in it! The dry leaf is really big leafy and twiggy, thus hard to scoop, so I weighed out 3 grams of tea for my cup.
Simple Loose Leaf flavors a higher temperature steep for whites – 200F for 2 to 3 minutes. I steeped my tea for 2 minutes. The steeped cup of Blueberry White Tea came out a pristine clear light gold with a fresh blueberry scent.
Blueberry White Tea sips in with a bit of bluberry notes. The shou mei tea takes over with a strong, juicy, sweet and fruity notes with a light crisp body. The blueberry is on the light side, but lingers as a light aftertaste.
Blueberry White tea is more for a tea drinker who loves a strong white tea with a twist of blueberry.
Tasting of August Simple Loose Leaf Selection Club’s Lady Earl Grey
The dry leaf of Lady Earl Grey has lots of pretty petals with the strong scent of bergamont.
The steeping instructions for this tea was 212F for a 3 to 5 minute steep. I liked the flavor at the 3.5 minute mark.
Lady Earl Grey has a moderate to high level of bergamont, but with a sweeter brighter touch. Throughout the sip the Nilgiri base adds a great smooth yet bold earthy flavor with a creamy texture. Lady Earl Grey finishes on a sweet citrusy cream note with a splash of briskness. There is a hint of astringency in my tea, though when I sipped at the 3 minute mark there was none (but not as strong).
Lady Earl Grey is an Earl Grey for someone who wants a more citrusy sweet zip. I found this tea wasn’t as creamy as other Earl Greys with vanilla flavor, but more on the sweet, refreshing side. This Lady Earl Grey is more bergamont flavor and heavier than other Lady Earl Grey’s I’ve had, which tend to be more orangey and lighter in flavor.
Coming up for the September Simple Loose Leaf Selection Tea Club box: Assam FTGFOP, Shou Mei White, Green Pekoe Tea, Four Seasons Oolong and Herbal Chai. Hmm, I’m stuck on what teas I’m going to select for next month!
