Oolong Owl’s Daily Tea Consumption

Since I’ve been in Spreadsheet everything mode, I started a spreadsheet documenting my daily tea consumption which I find to be the most helpful tea spreadsheet I’ve created. I found tracking how much tea I drink to be SUPER SUPER helpful in understanding my tea drinking practices, learning about my teas and being more effective with tea purchases. What my Daily Tea Consumption Spreadsheet tracks 1. Tea per gram each day. 2. How much tea leaves my house (gifted/swapped) 3. How much tea comes in. 4. Running totals of whether my stash is growing or shrinking Here is a screen shot of my spreadsheet for… Continue reading, hoot!

Oolong Owl’s World Tea Expo 2015 Haul

Oolong Owl invades the World Tea Expo 2015 Read Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 Here it is, my haul from the World Tea Expo 2015! Admittedly, it is hard to purchase things for just yourself at the World Tea Expo as many are sold as wholesale, or they just had one or two items as demo. I purchased a bunch of tea books – I learned from last year that the books will disappear. Cook books were of interest to me, my husband and I buy (and receive) lots of cookbooks. I purchased 3 cook books – Tastefully Small Savory… Continue reading, hoot!

World Tea Expo 2015 – Day 3

Oolong Owl invades the World Tea Expo 2015 Read Day 1 | Day 2 | Haul The final day of the World Tea Expo 2015! I’m tired! So much walking, carrying lots of packages/tea owls/camera stuff as well as tea binging and crashing. The caffeine crashes being the worst. I actually didn’t have much to do today – I had seen almost all the booths so all I had on the quest list is to hit a few booths I missed, The Finest Brew (again) and purchase some tea cups. As a surprise, my husband stuffed the giant Hell Hoot into my camera… Continue reading, hoot!

World Tea Expo 2015 Day 2

Oolong Owl invades the World Tea Expo 2015 Read – Day 1 | Day 3 | Haul Today was the day I was going to try and visit the other half of the Expo that I didn’t see yet, as well as back track to others that were too busy the first trip. I visited lots of booths and took a lot of pictures! So many pictures! Delicious Tea Aiya – I had a long talk with Aiya Matcha on matcha quality and market. Happy to see matcha taking off but most importantly great to taste the really good matchas. They were very knowledgeable… Continue reading, hoot!

Oolong Owl at World Tea Expo 2015 – Day 1

Oolong Owl invades the World Tea Expo 2015 Read Day 2 | Day 3 | Haul It was a mysteriously cool day here in Long Beach for Day 1 of the World Tea Expo. I rolled in downtown Long Beach looking for some hot tea! On the schedule today: I got just under half of all the booths checked out, which was a pretty good track record compared to last year. The catch this year is many of the booths now have scheduled tasting – either certain times of day they’ll steep up different teas to compare, or they only made… Continue reading, hoot!

Oolong Owl is going to be at World Tea Expo 2015!

The Tea Owls and I will be at the World Tea Expo 2015, next week on May 6 to 8 in Long Beach California! At this tea industry only event, we will be drinking all the samples, checking out all the new tea gadgets, and taking photos! Similar to last year, the Tea Owls and I will be doing daily coverage. However there are some after events I’ll be attending, so some posts might be late, but I’ll do my best. I’ll be posting on my twitter and instagram during the event! If there is something you want me to check out or look… Continue reading, hoot!

Steepster Sheng and Shu Pu’er Traveling Tea Box

I was lucky to participate in a Steepster community Pu’er Traveling Tea box! A traveling tea box is a community put together box full of different teas that is shipped around the country (or world) to signed up participants. Participants sample teas from the box and put in their own teas to replace the teas that were tried.  I’ve been in a few large traveling tea box with variety, ones with sample sizes and ones with a specific tea theme. I’ve seen a few pu’er tea boxes not get off the ground as to start a traveling tea box one needs… Continue reading, hoot!

Tea Owl Tea Blending!

Hoot, Char is out sick. It appears if you are a tea blogger, you need a sense of smell and taste to write about teas. With it now being the first of April, we need to get a tea blog post up. With that said, the Tea Owls will be doing a tea blend and review, hoot! At the last Tea Owl union meeting, we discussed and voted on our favorite teas, flavors and blend options to create the ultimate tea blend! Our exceptional owl tastes will create the ultimate tea blend and we will rise from being tea cup warmers and… Continue reading, hoot!

Oolong Owl Tea Stash Count – March 2015 Update

So, back in June 2014 I went through all my tea and counted it. It came back that I had 353 different teas! I recently got a new tea shelf, so I decided it was a good time to go through every tea again, including samples and tea bags and count them all. However, this time I decided to google spreadsheet my entire tea collection. I’m not a spreadsheet wizard, so my husband helped me with the calculations. Previously, I was using Steepster’s database to keep track, but I found it hard to search the teas I owned. I thought it would be… Continue reading, hoot!

Sous Vide Tea – Precision Tea Steeping

I love my Sous Vide circulator. I have the Anova One and I don’t know how I cooked without it. A sous vide circulator heats water to your desired food temperature, and you cook your food (vacuum packed normally) in the water. Being able to cook something with precise temperature makes for amazing food as it will never be over cooked or dried out. My perfect steaks, chicken breast, pork chops and ribs are the envy of my dinner guests. If you don’t know about sous vide, I suggest checking out Chef Steps for more information. Anyways, I have wondered what tea would… Continue reading, hoot!
