2019 Fall into the Danger Zone Autumn Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

It is time to taste Crimson Lotus Tea’s 2019 Fall into the Danger Zone, an autumn Hekai sheng puer. I greatly enjoyed their spring Danger Zone and I did not hesitate to preorder the fall pressing. 2019 Fall into the Danger Zone is the same tea garden, same king cobras, but autumn material. Leaf and Steeping Method The dry leaves have a sweet artichoke scent. As usual, I used a gongfu ratio of 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, steeped in boiling water. After infusing, the hot leaf smells also sweet and of artichokes. Tasting of Crimson… Continue reading, hoot!

2019 Low Rider Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

2019 Low Rider is a Crimson Lotus Tea custom blend of 2019 Spring material. Back at the 2019 NW Tea Festival, I tried Low Rider sheng puer and blurred in the background vs the heavy hitters of Altered State and Dangerzone. I felt Low Rider needed a test drive away from all the other flashy teas, so I was happy I was given a 200 gram cake to play with. Leaf and Steeping Method The dry leaf has a soft and gentle floral scent. As usual, I went with a gongfu ratio of 1 gram of leaf per 15ml vessel… Continue reading, hoot!

2019 Spring Danger Zone Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

Back in 2018, Crimson Lotus Tea told me his adventure of visiting a tea forest in Hekai with a 15 foot king cobra, and the guide running for the hills. He’d then show me the photo he took and to “find the cobra.” After hearing this story, all us Crimson Lotus Tea fans wanted to get our hands on some giant snake infested tea. In 2019 Crimson Lotus Tea got someone willing to go in the tea forest and pick the tea for Spring and Autumn Harvest. Today, I’ll be checking out 2019 Spring Danger Zone. I purchased my cake… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Beneath an Emerald Sea Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

2018 Beneath an Emerald Sea is a sheng puer by Crimson Lotus tea. My experience with the 2016 version was it was very shengry, causing a party of people to eat an entire tray of rice krispies at my BBQ party. I sampled the 2018 version of Beneath an Emerald Sea with Crimson Lotus Tea right before I left for my Europe cruise. I enjoyed it so much and felt it had potential, so I bought a cake then I went cruising with this tea. Looking back, I enjoyed 2018 more than the 2016 tea. Leaf and Steeping Method Here… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Dark Depths Shou Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

I purchased a cake of 2018 Dark Depths Shou Puer online a few weeks after it was released. I was teased by the original art, by Carl Faulkner, which is hung in Crimson Lotus Tea’s living room and I couldn’t wait to give this tea a try. My cake arrived sometime in June and I had it aired out for over a month before tasting. Leaf and Steeping Method The dry leaf has sweet earth and incense scent. My ratio was on the conservative side for shou as sometimes I like leafing harder, but I went with 1 gram of… Continue reading, hoot!

Gongfu2go – Portable Gongfu Style Tea Brewer from Crimson Lotus Tea

The Gongfu2go is a portable gongfu and grandpa style tea tumbler that is able to gravity pour as well as flip tea filter. The double cap and separate chamber action give a lot of flexibility to this tea device. A Crimson Lotus Tea creation! I was sent a Gongfu2go a few months early to test. It quickly became my car gongfu teaware. Gongfu2go Specs Two 150ml/ 5oz chambers. Double-walled borosilicate glass. Ceramic twist valve with stainless steel filter. Stainless steel lid interiors. Food grade silicone lid seals. Carrying handle on both sides. 9.5” / 24cm tall, 2.75”/ 7cm diameter. Hand… Continue reading, hoot!

Teaware Tea Owl Tuesday – Crimson Lotus Tea’s Budget Jianshui Bian Xishi Teapot

This was one of those teaware purchases I didn’t think about, I just pulled the trigger as I knew these teapots would sell out fast. Crimson Lotus Tea briefly sold Budget Jianshui Zitao teapots back in 2018. These teapots are “seconds” so the price was slashed due to the imperfections of the teapot. I talked to Crimson Lotus Tea afterwards, and there were issues like the spout wasn’t aligned and other blips. The kind of thing if you paid that $120 and spotted, you might make a fuss about. I snagged the Matte black Bian Xishi style. In retrospect, I… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Lao Cha Tou Shou Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

I’ve been on the radar for another good Lao Cha Tou. The last good one I had is long gone and finding a new and ready to drink Lao Cha Tou is tricky. Lao Cha Tou is stuck lumps of the shou pile, literal tea nugget chunks. Some shady vendors pitch the tea as a rarity. In the lower end scale, you get dusty lumps of fish. I have some from 2013 that are still not aired out enough to drink. What I like to see in a good Lao Cha Tou is indestructible shou drinking with a creamy profile… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Stone Lion Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

Crimson Lotus Tea’s 2018 Stone Lion Sheng Puer is a Spring, old tree huangpian style leaf from a less aggressive varietal of LaomanE. In case you didn’t know LaomanE is notorious for being bitter no matter what you do. I got my brick of 2018 Stone Lion sheng puer for free. Crimson Lotus Tea was giving away teas for free at the last PDX Tea Festival if you found them and shouted, “I LOVE CRIMSON LOTUS TEA!”. I had my husband do the shouting as he’s got the loud man voice. Since July, I had my brick settle down some,… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Spring Wildwood Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

Crimson Lotus Tea’s 2018 Wildwood sheng puer caught my radar fast as they posted a video showing the tea is from a secret remote old growth tea garden. You can only get there by motorcycle and a hike. 2018 Wildwood Sheng is a blend of old and young tree material, all single origin. Of course, I bought a sample, promptly forgot about it, and it has been in my pumidor for months. Leaf and Steeping Method The dry leaf has a tangy and grassy smell. I used 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, gongfu steeped with boiling water.… Continue reading, hoot!
