2013 Gongmei White Tea from White2Tea

I bought a sample of White2Tea’s 2013 Gongmei White around the time of its release, promptly lost the sample bag, then went on a 45 minute rampage through my tea space trying to find it. It should have been in my review basket, but it was shoved in a tin with black teas. White2tea’s 2013 Gongmei is a Fuding white tea, stored also in Fujian in natural/dry storage. Researching white tea drives me crazy. The order of quality/grading of white tea goes Baihao Yinzhen aka Silver Needle (buds), Bai Mu Dan aka White Peony (buds and leaves), GongMei, and ShouMei, the… Continue reading, hoot!

August 2018 White2tea Club feat 3 years of Milan Dancong

August 2018’s White2Tea Club is three Milan Dancongs, each a different year – 2016, 2017, and 2018. All three teas are spring material, processed, and roasted closely the same. There are no re-roasts on the older teas. This month is to serve as a fun comparison, but also to figure out what one likes in terms of age. Steeping Method I like my Dancong leafed into another dimension, so I used enough to fill the gaiwan, which was 1 gram of tea per 11ml of vessel size ratio. The high ratio is one I’m comfortable with, so I didn’t do… Continue reading, hoot!

July 2018 White2Tea Club feat 2018 Green Hype

Last year we got 2017 Hype in a White2Tea club box, which I tried it out of the gate and it tasted too young to drink now. When I knew there was a 2018 Green Hype coming, I drank the 2017 Hype and was surprised that it got massively better with a year on it. I’ve been thinking my tastes quite prefer puer with at least a year on it. My tea package had a hard journey. I opened my box, after sitting not even an hour in my parcel locker, to a tea cake that was over 90F. It… Continue reading, hoot!

June 2018 White2Tea Club feat. 2018 The Thing Is

I woke up one morning to watch my Instagram story feed to a long multi-piece video of White2Tea scaling a tea mountain with a chicken while telling us the secrets of the gushu. Be sure to watch the playlist video so you got a primer as June 2018’s White2Tea Club is the tea from that mountain. I’ve been with the White2Tea Club long enough to know these 50 gram cakes are the bomb in quality and tea drunk. Too many people pass on these 50 gram cake months as they see no bang for your buck (but then why… Continue reading, hoot!

Berry Malt Black Tea from White2Tea

I purchased White2Tea’s Berry Malt during the dry spell without their magical Anburn black tea. It is promised to be a good daily drinker. Berry Malt is processed as a Dian Hong, but made of large leaf puer material. I got this tea back in March 2018 and actually finished the entire bag in May. Dry Leaf and Steeping Method: Berry Malt is gorgeous and smells of yeasty bread and fresh berries. Total crack how good this leaf smells. I used 1 gram of tea to 15ml of vessel size. I steeped gongfu style with boiling water. Tasting of White2Tea’s Berry… Continue reading, hoot!

May 2018 White2tea club feat Milan Dancong Roast Comparison

This has to be the coolest month of the White2tea club – three special commissioned Milan Dancongs each with different roasting times. Not many variables in this tasting as it is the same batch of tea and same roaster. I have an 18, 22, and 26 hour roasts. Each tea is 25 grams, plenty to drink later to see how the roast has settled down. Let’s drink them side by side! For this tasting, I am working left to right, 18, 22, and 26 hour. I used 1 gram of leaf to 13ml of vessel size, flash steeped in boiling water. Dry… Continue reading, hoot!

2017 Flap Jacks Puer from White2Tea

Today’s review is the 2017 Flap Jacks by White2Tea. I have both the Sheng and Shou set. This tea is sold in a mini tong of 7, with 8 grams mini puer discs. I bought both sets of Flap Jacks with my White2Tea order around Black Friday. I actually hesitated to buy Flap Jacks as I rather buy full cakes than gimmicky prepackaged shapes, with also a slight fear of lesser quality material was used. But the Flap Jacks are around $5 each and freaking cute, so like the tea addict I am, I got them anyway. I was having… Continue reading, hoot!

Moonshine White and Sunlight White from White2Tea

I have been in white tea obsession mode these days, buying up all sorts of white tea to put into the Owl Aging Vault (which is just a cookie tin). Today, let’s try White2tea’s Moonshine and Sunlight White teas. I steeped both teas side by side in 200F/93C water, 1 gram of leaf to 20ml vessel size ratio. White2Tea’s Moonshine White Moonshine White is a Yue Guang Bai (YGB)/Moonlight white, that is a shade dried white tea. This Moonlight white is made of a cultivar tea that is usually for puer. Not much more information on this tea. White2Tea’s Nightlife cake, which… Continue reading, hoot!

Bamboo Dove from White2Tea

Because I’m crazy, I blind purchased an entire Bamboo Dove. Bamboo Dove is the same tea as White2Tea’s 2017 Turtle Dove but processed like traditional bamboo stuffed puer, and then roasted over a fire. White2Tea only sells Bamboo Dove by the 50 grams, but contact them and they’ll find a full piece for you. I ended up with a 336gram chunk. It is 13″/33cm long and 2″/5cm in diameter. Dry Leaf and Steeping Method Bamboo Dove feels heavy and firm, like a lead pipe. I could easily beat someone over the head with it. I got tea knives and heavy… Continue reading, hoot!

April 2018 White2Tea Club feat. Sparrow Tongue and Ganlu

This is the dreaded fresh green tea month of the White2Tea club. Green teas are not my thing, I much prefer young sheng, low oxidized oolongs, or matcha, as all of those teas give me more bang for my buck.  My personality also includes the more I dislike or am picky about something, the more I put up with less crap tea. Surprisingly, no there is Dragonwell this year, but instead, White2Tea went to Sparrow’s Tongue and Ganlu. I think that is a nice change of pace, especially to show more puer leaning people other green teas. Since I got… Continue reading, hoot!
