2013 Shou Mei White Tea Cake from Fuding from Yunnan Sourcing

On the tea review for today is Yunnan Sourcing’s 2013 Shou Mei White Tea Cake from Fuding. This cake is only $10! (not including Yunnan Sourcing shipping). I had this in my cart, then I took it out as I figured I had plenty of 5 year old Shou Meis in my stash. Then the cake showed up with my last Yunnan Sourcing order. Tea blogger power freebie? Either way, I didn’t pay for this cake. I didn’t know what it was as it wasn’t labeled, figured it was an aged white of some kind, then tea friends helped as… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Wild Tree Purple Moonlight White from Jinggu from Yunnan Sourcing

I’ve wanted Yunnan Sourcing’s Wild Tree Purple Moonlight White tea since around 2012 or 2013. I kept skipping it due to waiting for a sale or to put into the next big order (then forgot) and even a few times it got yanked out of my cart to meet shipping price thresholds. Other times it simply sold out before I could order. I went hard on white tea for 2018, or at least it became that way as white tea is pretty good and not as painful as puer prices, so I bought a bag. A 250 gram bag. 2018… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Jingmai Sun-Dried Three Aroma Bai Mu Dan White Tea from Yunnan Sourcing

I purchased 2018 Jingmai Sun-Dried Three Aroma Bai Mu Dan on a recommendation, and I went all in at a 250 gram bag because that’s how I roll with white tea. My brain auto thinks I need puer cake weight for the long term. By the way, if you have never purchased this much loose white tea before, it is a total PITA due to the volume it takes. I need to find a way to store this stuff. Leaf and Steeping Instructions Jingmai Sun-Dried Three Aroma is a rustic chunky stemmy leaf with mostly wide green leaves with some… Continue reading, hoot!

2017 Impression Sheng Puer from Yunnan Sourcing

Yunnan Sourcing‘s Impression series have been blended to be an affordable ager. Years back I tried the 2012 and 2014 Impression, both which were floating around in tea community Traveling Tea Boxes. At this time, all the Impression cakes are $23-$34.50 for 357grams, which seems to attract unsuspecting new tea drinkers to a cheap young puer out of Yunnan Sourcing’s huge collection. With that, this tea has a rep in the tea community as BITTER, harsh, strong, gut bombing toilet bowl cleaners that scare tea drinkers who are used to a more gentle tea. Now it is 2018. I have… Continue reading, hoot!

Blind Tasting of 2017 Yunnan Sourcing Puer

I was sent an assortment of puer from Yunnan Sourcing, organized by Mattcha, packaged as a blind tasting a la Half Dipper blog style. I had no idea what these teas are, but there will be an answer key at the end. There are a number of other bloggers who have already done this tasting with this set, and I’ve gone out of my way to ignore their work until I had this done. Sorry Cwyn and TeaDB. My notes are likely a little different as they got theirs done in January, and my slow owl ass drank the teas… Continue reading, hoot!

2017 Yunnan Sourcing Da Zhong Shan Sheng Puer

In an effort to find an interesting 2017 sheng puer to cake, I went to Yunnan Sourcing and searched through all the $60+ cakes and purchased samples of what sounded good. Buying random Yunnan Sourcing things is always fun! The 2017 Yunnan Sourcing Da Zhong Shan sheng puer description caught my eye – Our Da Zhong Shan tea cakes are pressed from wild growing tea leaves harvested in early spring from 50 to 150 year old tea trees growing at 1800 meters altitude!  The high mountain feeling in the tea comes out during brewing, giving the tea an almost oolong-like aroma… Continue reading, hoot!

2016 Menghai Golden Fruit Shou Puer via Yunnan Sourcing

When I heard about 2016 Menghai “Golden Fruit” Shou Puer on Yunnan Sourcing’s site, I was sold. With my last Yunnan Sourcing order, I purchased a whole cake for fun, it was only $24 for 357 grams. What caught my eye about this tea was the description: Entirely new production of Da Yi ripe called “金果” or Golden Fruit. It refers to the Peach of Immportality that grows in the orchard of the Celestials. The very peach that Sun Wukong stole and ate in “Journey to the West”. The idea was to create a peach taste in the ripe pu-erh. At… Continue reading, hoot!

ReHoot Review – 2012 Qui Yun Wild Arbor Sheng Puer from Yunnan Sourcing

Welcome to the first Oolong Owl ReHoot. I’ve been interested in revisiting teas, particularly the puer I’ve been aging in my stash, on how it is doing or how my tastes have been changing. Our first ReHoot is of Yunnan Sourcing’s Qui Yun Wild Arbor of Yiwu Mountain. I reviewed this tea back in August 2013, so this tea barely had a year of age on it. Keep in mind, I had been blogging for 7 months and this was I think my 4th or 5 puer cake I purchased, so I was a complete noob. There is no product listing… Continue reading, hoot!

Bai Ye Varietal Dancong Black Tea Spring 2016 from Yunnan Sourcing

Yunnan Sourcing has all kinds of sales every week. I managed to get sucked in a Dancong sale, feeling the need for some new and interesting Dancongs. I found Bai Ye Varietal Dancong while looking through all the 2016 line and the write up sounded appealing with, “Pronounced baked sweet potato taste…Highly recommended for Dan Cong and Black Tea aficionados alike!” I purchased this tea on Yunnan Sourcing.us, and it is sold out. Bai Ye Varietal Dancong is available on Yunnan Sourcing.com though. Actually, with this Dancong run I purchased many last bags from the US site. Dry Leaf SMELLOVISION… Continue reading, hoot!

2015 Green Miracle Shou Puer from Yunnan Sourcing

Today’s review is Yunnan Sourcing’s 2015 Green Miracle Wild Arbor shou puer. This puer is pressed spring 2014 50-70 year old wild arbor tree material. Since this puer came out, I’ve been told by friends that this shou is really good. I got tea buddies who have finished a whole cake or two of Green Miracle. A tea friend sent me a sample and I thought it was good enough for me to buy cake  with my next Yunnan Sourcing order. Once this puer hit my radar, I’ve noticed the price has gone up twice. It is still very affordable for a 250… Continue reading, hoot!
