Chestnut Green Tea from Lupicia – Tea Review

YES! Lupicia’s Chestnut Green Tea is a tea I’ve been questing to get for years now. My first online Lupicia order was during a sale (I think a Black Friday or New Years sale) and when the sale went active this tea went out of stock. Then I never saw it again. Every time I visited a Lupicia physical store I’d ask for Chestnut Green Tea and they were out of stock and direct me to the black tea version.

Lupicia has a free shipping deal not too long ago and I saw this tea was in stock, which cinched me jumping on the sale.

Dry leaf

Upon opening the package, I discover Chestnut Green Tea’s leaf is strongly scented of sweet nuts and caramel, yum! The leaf is dark green and loaded with lumps of chestnuts.

Steeping Instructions

Lupicia’s steeping instructions always scare me for green and white teas. Usually I steep green tea at 175F, sometimes lower, so I don’t brew the tea into a bitter hell. Lupicia calls for boiling water and 1.5 to 2 minute infusion for Chestnut Green Tea! Yikes! Well, I’ll follow the directions then.

Steeped up, Chestnut Green Tea comes out a creamy nutty scent with a crazy vibrant yellow green cup. The scent is so amazing, satisfying my cream, sweet nutty food cravings. There is a bit of debris in the cup – checking the ingredients there is powdered green tea in this blend as well.

Tasting of Lupicia’s Chestnut Green Tea

Chestnut Green Tea sips in a savory grassy with a slick creamy texture that fills the entire mouth. Mid sip the flavor is milk, chestnut flesh, nutty, toasty and sweet, with a quick aftertaste of sweet chestnut. The green tea base is fairly grassy and buttery, working very well with the nutty and sweet flavoring. The chestnut flavor is dead on to chestnuts Despite the scary steeping instructions, Chestnut Green Tea steeps up without bitterness. There is a little dry texture on the tongue, 1/10 on the Astringency Meter, and you only really notice it when you are almost finished your cup.

Comments

Lupicia’s Chestnut Green Tea is an awesome green tea blend for a sweet nutty treat – great if you love chestnuts! The flavoring is pretty friendly even if you never had chestnuts. I’d say this tea would be enjoyed by tea drinkers who love milk oolong, but want a green or straight tea drinkers wanting something that isn’t over the top blend crazy.

I really enjoyed this tea, especially since I’m a huge chestnut fan – in bagged snack form and roasted. I’m off to have some chestnut snacks!
