Another tea from Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co, a UK tea seller with a HUGE tea line up. The previous review was a blend, but let’s have an unflavored tea today – Choui Fong Thailand green tea. Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co carries quite a bit of unflavored teas from various regions.
Dry Leaf
Big gently pinched dark leaves that are on the twiggy side. The leaf has a bunch of fuzzies too Actually, quite a few sticks in this one. The Tea Owls picked some out as they need it for their camp fire for the weekend owl scout trip. The leaf is fragrantly sweet and clean, smelling like apples and nuts.
Steeping Instructions
I was determined to gongfu steep this green as I thought it would look really cool in my gaiwan. I generally stuffed a random about of green tea in and steeped it, but I figure I should find a more consistent ratio to deal with. I searched through google and found conflicting ratios ranging from 1 gram to 16ml to 1 gram to 60 ml. (all were in oz, so I had to convert). I went with 1 gram to 20ml, 175F water temperature and 30 second steeps.
Tasting of Kent & Sussex Tea Co’s Choui Fong Thailand Green Tea
Choui Fong Thailand has a scent of buttery and tangy. The tea is a clear light yellow/green tint, turning my cup to look more kiwi.
First Infusion: Choui Fong Thailand Green Tea comes out sweet, tangy and nutty with a butter cream finish. The texture is light yet pleasing mouth feel.
Second, Third, and Fourth Infusion: I lucked out and chose the right tea cup for this Thailand green tea. I got a kiwi looking cup and tea has kiwi tangy fruity note with a butter cream finish. The tang is the main flavor.
Fifth and Sixth Infusion: Huge drop in flavor here as the bitter and dryness sets in. The tip of my tongue gets hit with dryness with a cooked mushy greens taste. I think the longer steepings started to cook the leaf.
Big choppy leaves!
Comments
Kent & Sussex Tea & Coffee Co‘s Choui Fong Thailand green tea is a fun fruity green. I find this green tea a nice change of pace if you don’t like grassy, marine stuff and want a desserty green tea that isn’t a flavored one. Choui Fong Thailand green tea would make an excellent afternoon tea with all the fruit tarts! Mmmm, fruit tarts!
