Classic Matcha Bundle – Kanoyama & Umezuki Matcha from Tezumi

I’m trying a new to me tea vendor today – Tezumi! They asked me to try some of their teas and I’m starting with their matchas. Kanoyama and Umezuki Matcha are sold separately but also in the Classic Bundle for a deal. Both are single origin teas and the cheapest out of all their matchas.

When I was checking out their website, I ended up buying a matcha chawan.

Kanoyama Matcha from Tezumi

Kanoyama Matcha is Okumidori matcha from Wazuka, Kyoto

The powder is fresh, zesty grass in smell, but once I added it to the heated chawan it has a forest scent. The powder was clumpy but was fixed with sifting.

Tezumi has great, precise instructions for making matcha, which is great! I followed Tezumi instructions at first – 2g of matcha, 70ml of 70c water. Kanoyama Matcha whisked up effortlessly and foamed up nicely.

Kanoyama Matcha is creamy milky button mushroom, white chocolate, with a bold fresh sweet grass finish that lingers. The aftertaste opens to a fresh open field of grass and rolling foggy creamy hills. The texture is slick and creamy. Low bitterness and no astringency.

Umezuki Matcha from Tezumi

Umezuki Matcha is from Uji. This powder is strongly and distinctively sweet in smell. Opening it explodes in sweet grass.

Prepared, Umezuki Matcha is a bright, zesty, and deeper dark grassy taste with a rich buttery mushroom flavor. It is more potent than Kanoyama, but also a bit sweeter. The aftertaste is a sharp grassy note.

Umezuki is a zesty, morning wakeup kind of matcha. I agree with Tezumi that this is good daily matcha and the potent flavor will translate well for lattes.

On the other hand, Kanoyama is smooth and more aromatic. I will likely reach for this one again for usucha style. I personally drink more lattes and iced matcha day to day, and Umezuki would be my pick! Tezumi has fancier matches so stay tuned!
