Fish Hook, Dragoncloud, and Mountain Mist Green tea – Tea From Vietnam

Today’s reviews are of a collection of green teas from Tea From Vietnam. They currently have three different green teas in their collection! Let’s drink them all!

I quite like the label art on all the Tea From Vietnam packages, every tea has different artwork.

Steeping Instructions

For all the greens I used 4 grams to 120ml gaiwan (1 gram to 30ml ratio), using 175F water temperature. I did not do a rinse and started with a 30 second steep.

Fish Hook Green Tea – Tea From Vietnam

The leaf are delicate tight curls of tea with a sweet bread scent. Fresh marine and strong grass scent.

First Infusion: I know why they call this green tea fish hook – the tight hooks of green and its strong marine flavor. This is the strongest marine green I’ve ever had. The flavor is sweet kelp that lingers after each sip. Some might say this Fish Hook green tea tastes salty.

Second Infusion: Even stronger marine notes if that was possible making this like drinking an ocean of tea. A light bitterness shows up of strong kelp and seaweed is here, carrying in the sweet fresh finish.

Third Infusion: Fish Hook’s flavor dropped to vegetal smooth and sweet.

Dragoncloud Green Tea – Tea From Vietnam

Dragoncloud’s leaf looks similar to Fish Hook, but fatter curls. It steeps up with a light marine scent.

First and Second Infusion: Dragoncloud has a full thick body with a balance of marine, sweet, floral and herb notes with a refreshing finish. The flavor profile is light and fresh. I also know why they named this green “cloud” as the texture is very thick.

Third Infusion: Dragoncloud lightens quick, and this final steeping is light, crisp vegetal bitterness. There is no marine notes at the end.
Delicate complex green.

Mountain Mist (Ta Xua Ancient Tea Trees) Green Tea – Tea From Vietnam

This green looks very different than the other two, the leaves are darker and thicker, sporting some fuzz. Mountain Mist steeps up with a sweet scent of fruit.

First, Second, and Third Infusion: Mountain Mist is a thick textured floral green with a hint of smoke and orange citrus. The thickness isn’t as thick as Dragoncloud but still quite pleasing to drink.

Fourth Infusion: I got more steepings out of this green as it took longer to have the leaf open up. The taste is light with hums of bitter floral.

Comments

Tea From Vietnam range of greens would mostly appeal to marine green lovers or types who like Japanese greens. Fish Hook and Dragoncloud were both quite marine in flavor, whereas Mountain Mist was more floral and smooth. Out of the three, Dragoncloud was the most complex and interesting balance of flavors. For me personally I like Mountain Mist the best as the floral was nice (and I am not into marine notes) and the light smokey appealed to the sheng pu’er drinker in me.
