Goji Pop from DAVIDsTea – Oolong Owl Tea Review

Goji Pop is a herbal tea blend of apple, goji berries, hibiscus, roships, and honeydew. This caffeine free tea is from DAVIDsTea.

Goji Pop is an Oolong Owl favorite. I’ve must of purchased this tea about 4 times now. I tried a sample of it and WOW very good! I then promptly bought a 100g tin worth and have been refilling it every since. Annoyingly, my local DAVIDsTea was always sold out of this tea, so I’ve bought it online most of the time.

Dry Leaf

Very chunky appearance. Lumps of apple, goji berries, and hibiscus that have petals stuck to them with a very fruity smell.

By the way, Goji Pop is quite a heavy tea. My 50 gram bag filled maybe 30 to 40% of my DAVIDsTea tin.

Steeping Instructions

DAVIDsTea states to steep Goji Pop with 2 teaspoons of leaf with 208F water for 5 to 7 minutes. I did 212F for 6 minutes.

It is really cool to watch Goji Pop slowly turn pink.

The final result is a pinky red cup of tea that smells like melon and candy.

Taste

Goji Pop sips in a light to moderate flavor intensity. Throughout the sip I am getting lots of goji berry flavor mixed with a tarty floral hibiscus. Goji berry flavor has an interesting mix of tart cranberry vibrancy with a sweet berry strawberry background. Goji Pop finishes off with a honeydew flavor that is oddly not that sweet, as if I was drinking the scent of the uncut melon. The whole blend has a 4/10 Tart-o-meter tang to it, but also some sweetness that dull the tart.

To me, I find the sweetness level uncomfortable – it’s sweet enough I can tell it’s been sweetened, but not sweet enough for my liking. Since I cannot take away the already present sweetness in this tea, it is best to just add more.

Sweetened: I added a little german rock sugar, however from experience, honey and agave syrup work well with Goji Pop. Mmmm, much better! The entire cup of tea becomes like candy. The honeydew melon pops out stronger and works deliciously with the hibiscus and goji berry flavor.

Iced: This is my favorite way to drink Goji Pop. I poured some strong Goji Pop over ice and a bit of honey and the fruity flavors pop! The goji berry and melon are very bright and candy like! There is also a coolness to the flavor that makes this tea ultra refreshing.

Comments

DAVIDsTea’s Goji Pop is a fantastic fruity herbal blend that tastes unique with the interesting flavor profile of goji berry along with the honeydew melon. Goji Pop also makes for an excellent iced tea that would appeal to both kids and adults.

Bonus:

As much as I love doing my own photos for my blog, DAVIDsTea has the best picture:
