Kamba Berry is a purple tea blended with freeze dried blueberries, strawberries, Ethiopian sweet basil and powdered ginger. This interesting berry tea comes from Butiki Teas!
Wah, purple tea? I’ve had purple tea before, as a sample from Butiki Teas, and it was pretty good, though it was awhile ago. This Kamba berry tea sounded really good since I love both strawberry and blueberry, so it sneaked its way into my shopping cart.
DRY LEAF: Berry tart smell with a slight medicinal herb smell to it – ginger?
The smell of berries has attracted a wild OWLBEAR to our tea session! I guess he got bored hanging out on my cute crochet blog
STEEPED: Deep red tea with a tart, hibiscusy berry smell.
I steeped this tea as per instructions: boiling water for 3 minutes.
Hey, I get to taste the tea first! Shooooo!
TASTE: Tart! 6/10 on the Tart-o-meter! Despite that, very delicious, natural blueberry flavor! This blueberry has a bit of natural sweetness to it – very much so like drinking diluted pure blueberry juice. After that blueberry taste, it has a good herbal kiss to it adding lots of interest. There is a dry aftertaste at the end, drying out my throat – encouraging me to sip down more. 5/10 on the Dry-o-meter. I’m not sure if I’m picking up the Purple tea – it could be adding to the dryness or the herby taste.
Sweetened with rock sugar – much better! The tart is down to a 3/10 on the Tart-o-Meter. The blueberry here is nice, and I can pick out a tart strawberry flavor here finally. Middle of the fruit flavors I’m getting a little herbal flavor. End of sip I get a bit of ginger dryness and slight herby flavor. Cooled, I can taste the herby-bitter ginger bite more but interestingly this ginger is not spicy at all.
Owlbear’s review? *owlbear burp*
ICED: I steeped a cup worth with half the boiling water and poured it over ice, a little honey and a lime slice. Kamba Berry iced reminds me of a light cranberry-blueberry juice blend. It is refreshing and full of fruity flavor! I don’t notice much herby flavor, but the dry ginger is still present inviting me to drink more to quench my thirst. The ginger dryness slightly reminds me of ginger ale, but without that pungent ginger taste. Adding the fresh lime was a good match as well! I prefer Kamba Berry iced! It’s an iced tea to sit outside with, savoring each sip and the spring scenery with.
COMMENTS: I do love a good fruity tea – and Butiki Tea’s Kamba Berry is quite lovely – despite the tart and dryness, this tea has lots of interest going on with the slight herby bite and ginger dry aftertaste.
I gotta say, this Kamba Berry tea is addicting to me. I think it’s the throat drying effect encouraging me to have more. After a glass of iced Kamba Berry, I want more. Sneaky!
Overall Butiki Teas Kamba Berry is a refreshing, full flavored berry purple tea with lots of interest. If you are into berry teas, don’t mind a little tart or dryness, this tea is a must try!
It appears Mr. Owlbear claimed the rest of my Kamba Berry stash.
