Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin from 52 Teas – Tea Review

Today’s review is 52 Teas’ Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin – everything about this flavored tea sounds amazing! I got this tea with the last 52 Teas kickstarter, which was the one for the 52 Teas management change. I’m pretty happy so far as Anne has been using more interesting tea bases.

52 Teas has a new kickstarter for the Christmas teas and they all look amazing. One caught my eye the most is “Peppermint Marshmallow Melting in Hot Chocolate” as it uses a Verdant Tea as a black tea base (OMG YES). If that tea blend doesn’t catch your eye, Gingerbread Houjicha, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, Cranberry Orange Cider, or Eggnog Chai will. Here’s the Kickstarter – get your Christmas shopping started or if you are like me, buy the entire tea line for yourself maybe share with family over the holidays.

Dry Leaf

The dry leaf is tight wads of oolong, accented with marigold petals. The tea smells like maple sugar, yum makes me feel like I’m home in Canada. Maple everything!

Steeping Instructions

I followed the package directions, steeping my tea western style with 6 grams of tea in a 12oz mug. I used 180F spring water and infused the tea for 4 minutes.

I had forgot to mention this in yesterday’s tea review, but right now I’m staying in Park City, Utah at my Grandmother-in-law’s timeshare condo thing. The town is a ski resort (but I’m here off season). That said, I’m steeping this tea at 7000 altitude, so my results might be different.

The oolong leaf looks pretty good for a flavored tea!

Tasting of 52 Teas’ Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin

Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin steeps up a clear yellow gold with a maple scent.

The taste is quite nice. It’s sweet, lightly maple sugar, cream with a base of TGY. The mouthfeel is creamy and delicious, like cheesecake. The TGY is lightly grassy, fresh and a little floral, but mostly grassy. I snacked on some local farmer’s market berries with this tea and it was a delicious pairing! I can picture in my mind a maple cheesecake decorated with berries!

Comments

What I like about 52 Teas’ Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin is that you get both the maple and creamy flavor as well as the TGY base. It’s also not too overpoweringly blended nor not overly sweet.

52 Teas’ Maple Cheesecake Tie Guan Yin is available at 52 Teas’ shop in large size (1.5 oz) or taster size (0.5oz). 52 Teas makes a new blend every week, so if you like the sound of a tea I would get it ASAP before it’s gone.
