Bruu Tea Club Review

Bruu Tea Club is based in the UK. For £10 a month, or cheaper if you subscribe for 3-12 months, (add £2.99 for outside UK shipping) you get three loose leaf teas a month and a little surprise. The tea club is personalized with your preferences with an algorithm. You can also purchase teas from Bruu, at this time I counted 67 teas to choose from. Unboxing of Bruu Tea Club Bruu Tea Club came with 3 teas, clocking in around 14 grams each. Also included was a tea ball strainer and vegan gluten free milk chocolate (for Easter). 2019 March White2tea Club feat. Milan Dancong Comparison and 2015 Gongmei

2019 March White2Tea Club time! The March White2Tea Club contains two Milan Dancong oolongs – No Roast and 26 hour Roast, plus a bonus new 2015 Gongmei white tea. The Milan Dancongs are as a learning experience to compare what roast does to tea, whereas the Gongmei is a sample of a tea for purchase. 2019 March White2Tea Club Milan Dancongs No Roast Milan Dancong The No Roast Milan Dancong smells like floral cheerios. There are some long green leaves here. These leaves seem really poofy, I filled the gaiwan and it worked out to 1 gram per 15ml of… Continue reading, hoot!

2013 Shou Mei White Tea Cake from Fuding from Yunnan Sourcing

On the tea review for today is Yunnan Sourcing’s 2013 Shou Mei White Tea Cake from Fuding. This cake is only $10! (not including Yunnan Sourcing shipping). I had this in my cart, then I took it out as I figured I had plenty of 5 year old Shou Meis in my stash. Then the cake showed up with my last Yunnan Sourcing order. Tea blogger power freebie? Either way, I didn’t pay for this cake. I didn’t know what it was as it wasn’t labeled, figured it was an aged white of some kind, then tea friends helped as… Continue reading, hoot!

Sun Goddess Matcha from Pique Tea

I’m always on the lookout for new good matcha. Today is testing Pique Tea’s Sun Goddess Matcha, an organic ceremonial grade tea which hosts a number of firsts for matcha. For one, it is quadruple tested for heavy metals, pesticides, mold, and radiation. It is also shaded 35% longer to encourage more l-theanine and umami flavour. This matcha has been through some tough things to ensure it is pure. If you are new here, I’ve reviewed plenty of other matchas if you would like to compare. You can also check out Pique Tea’s guide to Premium Matcha for more in… Continue reading, hoot!

Crimson Lishan from Floating Leaves Tea

Today’s review is Floating Leaves Tea’s Crimson Lishan. This is a High Mountain Lishan that was processed as a black tea. I can get enough Taiwanese black teas, so I was excited to get my hands on a black Lishan. I sampled Crimson Lishan in the shop, then bought 4oz worth. Leaf and Steeping Method Crimson Lishan has a cinnamon, grape, and plum scent. I used 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, gongfu steeping in boiling water. The hot leaf still has a plummy cinnamon scent. Tasting of Floating Leaves Tea’s Crimson Lishan First and Second Infusion:… Continue reading, hoot!

Teaware Tea Owl Tuesday – Kitchenables Ceylon Glass Teapot

Today’s piece of teaware is Kitchenables’ Ceylon Glass Teapot. The first impression is this glass teapot is perfect for a crowd of thirsty tea drinkers. Kitchenables Ceylon Glass Teapot Specs 40oz / 1200ml Size Hand Blown Borosilicate Glass Stainless Steel Removable Fine Mesh Filter and Lid Stovetop safe Dishwasher safe Comes with a hot pad I quite like the tall skinny profile of the Kitchenables Ceylon Glass Teapot. It looks modern and a bit different than the typical glass teapot. Pros Tight fitting parts – The lid, filter, and teapot snap on and off with ease. There is no rattling… Continue reading, hoot!

Hooty Tea Travels – 2019 Mediterranean Atlantic Cruise 2 – How I Tea on a Cruise Ship

My Mediterranean Atlantic cruise was a 12 day trip with a day or two on each end for travelling and time zone craziness. Previous cruises I brought simply a travel tea tumbler to do grandpa style, along with a double walled stainless steel tumbler to double as hot water storage for tea or ice water for non-tea use. I’d often use the travel tea tumbler as a pseudo teapot. I found after a couple of days I got really bored with grandpa style and cold brew tea, so for this trip, I brought a teapot. I looked for a few… Continue reading, hoot!

Hooty Tea Travels – 2019 Mediterranean Atlantic Cruise feat. Ports and Hauls

I recently came back from a long, well-needed vacation from Rome to London. I stayed in Rome for two days, then hopped on a Princess Cruise ship from Civitavecchia, then sailed to Livorno, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Gibraltar, Lisbon, Normandy, and Southampton for 10 more days. To make it confusing, I did a tour bus up to Florence from Livorno, a day in Nice from Monte Carlo, and finally a day in Paris from Normandy. Along the way, I looked for tea but mostly found food. I ended up buying all flavoured teas this entire trip. All the shops I went… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Lao Cha Tou Shou Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

I’ve been on the radar for another good Lao Cha Tou. The last good one I had is long gone and finding a new and ready to drink Lao Cha Tou is tricky. Lao Cha Tou is stuck lumps of the shou pile, literal tea nugget chunks. Some shady vendors pitch the tea as a rarity. In the lower end scale, you get dusty lumps of fish. I have some from 2013 that are still not aired out enough to drink. What I like to see in a good Lao Cha Tou is indestructible shou drinking with a creamy profile… Continue reading, hoot!

Lychee Purple Leaf, Turmeric Mango Green, and Citrus Sonata Oolong from Artful Tea

Today’s review is a selection of flavoured tea blends from Artful Tea. Artful Tea sells flavoured and unflavored loose leaf teas. The teas I’m trying today are in sampler packaging, which they fill a tea bag filter with around 5-7grams of tea, enough for a large 12oz serving steeped western style. Artful Tea’s Lychee Purple Leaf Tea Lychee Purple Leaf Tea is a blend of Kenyan Purple Leaf tea, apple, pineapple, lemon peel, currants and lychee flavour. The dry leaf smells like blueberries and lychee. I recall Purple Leaf being quite sensitive to temperature, so I used 175F for around… Continue reading, hoot!
