2017 Jinggu Bang Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

Despite 2018 Spring teas almost ready, I still have 2017 Spring teas untouched. I’ve been plowing through my queue and it is great when I find some wins. Todays’ review is Crimson Lotus Tea’s 2017 Jinggu Bang Sheng Puer. This is a spring tea and described as a “fantastic representative of Jinggu area material.” Crimson Lotus Tea has the best sample wrapping. I love that I can just stuff these in my pumidor. Dry Leaf and Steeping Method Jinggu Bang has a big, twisted vibrant green leaf. The tea smells of baby powder, sticky medicinal, and sweet grass. I went… Continue reading, hoot!

Moonshine White and Sunlight White from White2Tea

I have been in white tea obsession mode these days, buying up all sorts of white tea to put into the Owl Aging Vault (which is just a cookie tin). Today, let’s try White2tea’s Moonshine and Sunlight White teas. I steeped both teas side by side in 200F/93C water, 1 gram of leaf to 20ml vessel size ratio. White2Tea’s Moonshine White Moonshine White is a Yue Guang Bai (YGB)/Moonlight white, that is a shade dried white tea. This Moonlight white is made of a cultivar tea that is usually for puer. Not much more information on this tea. White2Tea’s Nightlife cake, which… Continue reading, hoot!

Adagio Teas’ Green Rooibos Blends

After my Will It Tea Egg stunt, I started to question my Hibiscus consumption. I need a caffeine-free tea that I can drink iced in the evening. I don’t know how some of you can drink a vat of puer then go to bed because if I drink tea after 3-5pm I am not sleeping well that night. My body can only handle 1 or 2 tea benders a month, and I save that for tea conventions, festivals, and gatherings. That said, let’s try some stuff Adagio Teas sent me. I got Green Rooibos Bonita and Green Rooibos Key West.… Continue reading, hoot!

2012 Tribute White Tea from Bana Tea Company

Bana Tea Company has some really good non-puer teas. Their Moonlight White from Jingmai is killer so am I pumped to see Bana Tea with some more white teas. With my last Bana Tea order, I slipped a box of 2012 Tribute White in. 2012 Tribute white is a Fuding, Fujian white tea. I volunteer myself as tribute, let’s drink this! Dry Leaf and Steeping Method That is a fuzzy leaf! If I didn’t have a bunny I would just pet this tea. The leaf smells like chocolate covered coconut. The bottom of the bag is also fuzz central. I’ve been… Continue reading, hoot!

Bamboo Dove from White2Tea

Because I’m crazy, I blind purchased an entire Bamboo Dove. Bamboo Dove is the same tea as White2Tea’s 2017 Turtle Dove but processed like traditional bamboo stuffed puer, and then roasted over a fire. White2Tea only sells Bamboo Dove by the 50 grams, but contact them and they’ll find a full piece for you. I ended up with a 336gram chunk. It is 13″/33cm long and 2″/5cm in diameter. Dry Leaf and Steeping Method Bamboo Dove feels heavy and firm, like a lead pipe. I could easily beat someone over the head with it. I got tea knives and heavy… Continue reading, hoot!

Jeju Island Matcha and Black Tea from Teas Unique

Teas Unique sent me a box of unusual Korean teas. I most often come across green tea or hwangcha, but here I have matcha and a black tea. Teas Unique’s Hwangcha was pretty good with a big selection. Out of the box, I picked out the Jeju Island teas to review. Teas Unique’s Jeju Island Ceremonial Grade Organic Matcha I haven’t had good Korean Matcha. Note, yes we can be pedantic and this isn’t matcha, but green tea powder. I’m sticking with matcha as it is faster. This Jeju Island Matcha from Teas Unique is a first flush, single estate,… Continue reading, hoot!

April 2018 White2Tea Club feat. Sparrow Tongue and Ganlu

This is the dreaded fresh green tea month of the White2Tea club. Green teas are not my thing, I much prefer young sheng, low oxidized oolongs, or matcha, as all of those teas give me more bang for my buck.  My personality also includes the more I dislike or am picky about something, the more I put up with less crap tea. Surprisingly, no there is Dragonwell this year, but instead, White2Tea went to Sparrow’s Tongue and Ganlu. I think that is a nice change of pace, especially to show more puer leaning people other green teas. Since I got… Continue reading, hoot!

Simple Sheng and Shou from Crimson Lotus Tea

Today’s review is Crimson Lotus Tea‘s Simple Puer line, which is designed as a good first puer and easy to brew. Both the 2017 Simple Sheng and 2016 Simple Shou are 50 gram cakes and pressed into easy to break 6 pieces, so in theory, each piece should break into 8 gram servings. No puer tools needed and 8 grams is a decent size for most gaiwan sizes. Crimson Lotus Tea Simple Sheng The dry leaf smells sweet, with the hot leaf leaning more floral. Strangely, my Simple Sheng broke off uneven at the base and I got a 6 gram piece.… Continue reading, hoot!

Yellow Thunder Yellow Tea by Steep Lab

Today’s review is from a new tea seller Steep Lab, who is based in Texas. Yellow Thunder is a yellow tea from Sichuan, China, promised to be a robust tea. I honestly don’t think I’ve purchased a yellow tea or brewed it myself until today. I’ve had yellow tea a number of times at tea shops, festivals, or what friends have brought over to tea parties. Regardless, yellow tea it is a type of tea you don’t see all that often sold by tea shops. First off, Steep Lab has the coolest packaging. I love the wooden box you get with their… Continue reading, hoot!

Sunday Tea Hoots 39 – Anniversary Octopus Teapot

April 13th was my 5th wedding anniversary to my Tea Hating Husband. Both this year and the day we got married landed on a Friday, haha! I didn’t receive wood or silver, which are the traditional anniversary gifts (who makes that stuff up?), I got an octopus teapot. From afar, it looks more like a work of art than a teapot. Before I was a big owl obsessed person, I quite like octopi as they are tasty and strange looking. Admittedly, it functionally is a questionable as the lid is small so it is hard to add tea leaves or clean. The… Continue reading, hoot!
