Korean Hwangcha from Teas Unique

I’m always on the hunt for more Korean teas. Teas Unique is a US based seller that has sourced 4 regions of Korean Teas, with a big range of single estate Green (with a range of pluckings), Oxidized, and Powder. I decided to try Teas Unique’s oxidized tea line. They have two unflavored Hwangchas, from a different region and picking. The similarities are they are both organic, hand picked, and hand processed teas. Korean Boseong Sejak Hwangcha is roasted, from Unrim Village/ Boseong County, and is a second picking. Korean Mt. Jiri Joonjak Hwangcha is pan fried, and from Mt. Jiri/… Continue reading, hoot!

Varietal Comparison – Sun Moon Lake from Cameron Tea

I am lucky enough to have a bunch of samples from Cameron Tea, who has multiple grades and varietals of the same tea. Today is a comparison of Sun Moon Lake, both competition grade, but different varietals – Ruby (TTES No. 18) and Assam (Assamica varietal from India Jaipur). Dang, I just realized they also have a Sun Moon Lake Formosa varietal as well – next time! Dry Leaf and Steeping Method For all photos, the Ruby is on the left, Assam on the right. Leaf wise, the two teas look pretty darn close. The Assam seems lighter as there is more leaf… Continue reading, hoot!

Grand Admiral Thrawn Tea from Adagio Teas – feat. Owlth’raw’nuruodo

Pushing further into so-called “Unknown space” I have come across a curious race of “Tea Owls.” Their political organization is primitive, purporting to be a parliament but lacking most of the expected procedure as the majority of their time and efforts appears focused their titular concoction they call tea. I have observed the Tea Owls who work brewing tea, cleaning tea pots, and operating cameras in a remarkably diligent effort to document every aspect of this cultural obsession. At the end of each day these owls drink yet more tea and consume “beef jerky,” a desiccated meat product very similar in taste to… Continue reading, hoot!

Pine Oolong and Honey Red Jade from Golden Tea Leaf

I came across Golden Tea Leaf at the last World Tea Expo. Golden Leaf Tea had some delicious tea, but also award winning tea. Both teas I will be tasting today placed in the North American World Tea Championships, Pine Oolong first place and Honey Red Jade third place. Pine Oolong Pine Oolong is a blend of two Taiwanese High Mountain teas. Which high mountain teas? They don’t say, so I guess a trade secret? I was only given sachets that contained 3 grams of leaf. The tea inside the sachets look great and appear to be whole leaf. With two sachets, I was able… Continue reading, hoot!

Fujian Rain & Fujian Baroque from Adagio Teas

Lets try a couple of Adagio Teas Fujian Teas – Fujian Rain and Fujian Baroque! Right off the bat I noticed something odd with my samples. On the website, they don’t post the weight of their samples, other than “X cups”. With the samples in my possession, I learn that Fujian Rain is a 14 gram sample, whereas Fujian Baroque says 23 grams. Looking at the website, both teas aren’t sold in a consistent size either – Rain is sold in 2oz/8oz, Baroque 3oz/16oz, but close in unit price. That said, the next person who asks me, “How big are Adagio’s… Continue reading, hoot!

Tisano Chocolate Tea Review

I have a bad sweet tooth. As much as I drink all this oolong and puer, I still like having tea that tastes like sweets in hope that saves me from eating a slice of cake. Maybe. Tisano sent me a bunch of their Chocolate Tea to try and their product sounded very interesting. Tisano Chocolate tea is 100% pure organic cacao shell with no flavorings – that said, a caffeine free tisane. Dry Bits I was expected a handful of cacao nibs, but instead I got these thin curls of bean. These are technically cacao shells made by some special… Continue reading, hoot!

Korean Dong Cheon Sejak Teas from What-Cha

I’m always on the hunt for Korean teas… though they also tend to be expensive. I was able to get in a deal with What-Chat Teas over reddit awhile back to preorder/group buy/meet his minimum order for these Korean teas. There is a few other sellers that carry Dong Cheon as well, but both teas, Korea Dong Cheon Sejak Jaksulcha Green Tea and Korea Dong Cheon Sejak Dancha Black Tea, are available on What-Cha. Korea Dong Cheon Sejak Jaksulcha Green Tea Sejak refers to picking time, thus this is a Spring 2016 tea. What-Cha has a summer picking available, aka Daejak. Jaksul means “Sparrow’s Tongue”,… Continue reading, hoot!

Taste of Taiwan Chapter 1 from Teaful – Tea Review

Teaful is a new tea experience that curates a box of teas with a theme of exploration of tea producing region. They list what teas are in each chapter, so there are no surprises for what you get. I got the Taste of Taiwan Chapter 1 box, but there is another box that comes with teaware. Unboxing of Teaful’s Taste of Taiwan Chapter 1 Teaful has some slick and modern packaging! Inside is the four teas in individual boxed cubbies. In each box is the tea foil or vacuum sealed, depending on the tea. The first box is Taste of Taiwan… Continue reading, hoot!

Pacific Northwest Taiwanese Black Tea Comparison

I’m up to no good. I’ve been collecting Taiwanese Black teas for a rainy day like today. I’m gonna brew a bunch up together and see how it goes. It is thundering outside, as long as I got a mobile data and enough kettle water I’m good. All the Taiwanese Blacks were obtained from local Pacific Northwest tea sellers – two Seattle and a Portland one. The Seattle teas I purchased in person, and Totem Tea mailed me a sample of their Ruby 18. These are all 2015 teas just to be fair. I have more Sun Moon Lake and Ruby 18 kicking around but they… Continue reading, hoot!
