2015 Bulang Raw Mini Cake from Bana Tea Company – Tea Review

I purchased the 2015 Bulang Raw Mini Cake from Bana Tea Company when I was at the LA International Tea Festival. I remember tasting the 2015 Bulang Shou at the Festival, but I ended up buying both as the shou was so good, plus the price was affordable. This Bulang sheng is a spring harvest from 100 year old trees. Dry Leaf The cake broke apart easily, so it is likely a stone/hand pressed cake. Steeping Instructions I tried doing a younger sheng treatment, so 200F, but I ended up using a slightly higher leaf of 1 gram to 14ml. I didn’t want to… Continue reading, hoot!

2011 Longrun Jasmine Puer – Tea Review

This was one the World Tea Expo 2015 finds and an impulse buy. When I bought this Jasmine Sheng I thought it was a shou and in that moment jasmine shou sounded cool. Then when I was checking up online I learned what I got was actually a sheng. My 2011 Longrun Jasmine Puer is a 100 gram mini cake. It is Yunnan origin and that is all the information I can find on this tea. By the way, Longrun pu’er is available on Amazon.com. So far the Longrun pu’er I’ve gotten has been decent, so if you want tea off Amazon I’d… Continue reading, hoot!

March 2016 White2Tea Club

Let’s transport back a month to review the March 2016 White2Tea Club! The teas included for the month of March: 2011 Aged White Tea Fuding and 2009 Yiwu Raw Puer, 50 gram samples each and both available for purchase. I’d say White2tea was pretty generous this month with the sizes. Both teas are entering middle age, so this is a tasting of teas we can snag now at a decent price as the same tea a bit older is much more money. Both teas would be great for further aging. 2009 Yiwu Raw Puer from the March 2016 White2tea Club… Continue reading, hoot!

2015 Bulang Ripe Puer Mini Cake from Bana Tea Company

I purchased the 2015 Bulang Ripe Puer Mini Cake from the Los Angeles Tea Festival 2015. Bana Tea Company has excellent shou pu’er and the taster at the booth was lovely and the price was good for a little 100 gram cake, so I went for it. This bulang is a spring harvest from 100 year old trees from Bulang Mountain. The packaging is nice and simple, though had a chuckle with the translation it was from jungle trees. You have to go through Bana Tea Company’s site, but there you will find that the owner’s tea master is Tea Master Versper… Continue reading, hoot!

2012 Huron Gold Needle from Whispering Pines Tea Co – Tea Review

Today’s review is a shou cake from Whispering Pines Tea Co – 2012 Huron Gold Needle. I purchased this cake, along with the 2013 Ontario Shou, when they were just released in cake form. I had sampled both from tea community Travelling Tea Boxes and thought they were pretty tasty, inexpensive, and worth having a cake on hand. Interesting wrapper on this cake! Dry Leaf Wow, this is a gorgeous cake, one of the best looking shous I’ve seen! Huron Gold Needle has beautiful ripples of gold throughout the warm brown tea. Steeping Instructions I used boiling filtered water to… Continue reading, hoot!

February 2016 White2tea club – Tea Review

I know, it is mid March, so I got this tea a month ago. Unfortunately, the February club arrived late, despite the club shipping them early to avoid Lunar New Year. Then I went out of town, got sick and now I’m moving. I will not be 2 months late! For February 2016 we got a pair of 2005 teas – 2005 Aged White Tea Zhenghe and 2005 Teji Tuo Sheng Pu’er, a total of 125 grams of tea. 2005 Teji Tuo Sheng – February 2016 White2tea club I was warned that the 2005 Teji Tuo is super potent. Some people… Continue reading, hoot!

2014 Iron Forge Shou Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea – Tea Review

Today’s tea review is Crimson Lotus Tea‘s 2014 Iron Forge Shou Puer. This pu’er is a huang pian (big leaf or not pretty leaf material) from Yiwu. Generally huang pian pu’er is cheaper, making it a really affordable option. This is reflected in Iron Forge, at this time $38 for 500g of tea! I seriously bought this tea because the name and packaging was awesome. I’ve been watching Glen from Crimson Lotus Tea make pu’er knives on Instagram, and it seems totally fitting to have a metal work feel. At the time of order, I had finished the season of Forged… Continue reading, hoot!

Fresh Shou Pu’er Balls Tasting Experiment

Back in June 2015, the White2tea club included 3 ripe pu’er balls with a challenge of drinking one ripe ball now, and the rest 3 months later. I tasted the first ball with my White2Tea club June 2015 review and then set my calendar to alert me 3 months and 6 months later. As far as I know, you cannot get these ripe pu’er balls unless you were in the White2Tea club back in June, so this is more of a educational tasting. Maybe they are material in another pu’er cake? Anyways, read the tasting I did on the fresh shou… Continue reading, hoot!

January 2016 White2Tea Club featuring 2015 Old Reliable Ripe Pu’er

Starting the new year with a bang, White2tea got a bunch of new shous. However, being in the White2Tea club scored us a whole cake of the new 2015 Old Reliable Ripe Pu’er. Also in this month’s club is a 2008 Shou Mei sample. If you are wondering about the “love letter”, it is a coupon code for Teaware.house! White2Tea’s 2015 Old Reliable Ripe Pu’er 2015 Old Reliable Ripe Pu’er is a 200gram cake. The wrapper is really cool! The cake has a light woodsy scent. I trust White2tea will have this cake smelling good, no funky times. Steeping Instructions I made this shou pu’er… Continue reading, hoot!

2014 Gu Ming Xiang “Bulang Gushu 2.0” Shou Pu’er – Crimson Lotus Tea

I was waiting for Crimson Lotus Tea to have a sale, and during Cyber Monday I put in an order for a bunch of their shous. My love for shou pu’er is growing stronger and stronger. I love Crimson Lotus Tea’s 2008 Bulang Shan Imperial Grade a lot and the 2012 Bulang Shan Gushu was awesome too. When I saw they got a new Bulang shou, 2014 Gu Ming Xiang “Bulang Gushu 2.0” I ordered a sample. It was really hard for me to not order the 1kg brick. 1kg size entertained me greatly but I managed to talk some sense into… Continue reading, hoot!
