When I started Oolong Owl early this year I was really a “I rather have tea than tea ware” kind of person. I used basic tea ware like a gravity steeper, variable kettle with a glass mug and white tea cup to show off tea colour. As this blog progressed I’ve been feeling like I need more attractive tea ware to photo with the teas. I’ve also been enjoying serving guests tea in tiny annoying tea cups, MUAHAHAH!
Anyways, here is some of my recent tea ware purchases:
Mint Owl Mug!
I always wanted one of these sweet owl mugs! It’s like I’m drinking out of an Owl’s brain! Be really cool if I filled the mug with ice cream or scrambled eggs, LOL!
Many sellers have these mugs and they are all over Ebay. This guy came from ebay – I won’t mention the seller though it wasn’t a great buying experience from as it took a month to get it despite it coming from the same state as me!
Owl Tea Cup
This owl cup came from Yunomi.us. They have a great selection of Japanese tea ware – some pretty cheap, others in the high quality pricey range.
I am a SUCKER for crackle looking glazes, they just look really cool! This cup is super cute, but gets really hot – best for cooler teas.
Jingdezhen Tea Cups
I collected 3 so far from different sellers. I feel I should buy one more so I have a set of 4. There’s something enchanting about having non matching tea ware.
The cup on the top is from ebay seller Shanghaistory who was pretty good to buy from. I figure I might buy one more from them as my fourth cup. The two cups on the bottom are from Verdant Tea, who of course are pretty awesome. All three feel really nice to drink out of! Maybe I should start collecting more of these types of tea cups.
What I like about this style of cup is the art work starts from the outside of the cup, branching to the inside of the cup!
Daiso Cups
I love you Daiso! Cheap tea ware! Well, these might be sake cups, I don’t know. They were in with the tea cups and sake stuff. Either way, $1.50 each is a great deal! These are also annoyingly small tea cups to appear snooty to tea guests with. I wanted 2 different colours, but this teal was the best looking colour.
Cast Iron Tea Pot
I’ve been wanting one of these teapots for awhile. Cast iron tea pots appeal to me as they retain heat really well and are very sturdy. These kind of teapots can last a long time with good care. Now, hopefully I remember to dry it every time I use the tea pot so it doesn’t get rusty!
I got mine at my local Cost Plus World Market. I really liked their Plum Flower cast iron tea pot but I went with the teal one as I felt the smaller capacity was more appealing.
Many tea shops have these tea pots. It took me so long to get one as it seems these iron tea pots are not cheap – $40 was the cheapest I saw at one tea shop, with a place like Teavana selling them at $69 to $200.
Of course, when I saw the price of this tea pot, I had to get it!
…. maybe I should go back and get the Plum one…
