The matcha for today is a fancy one from Tezumi Tea – Uji Hikari Matcha. Previously, I sampled some of their daily drinker matchas, so let’s drink the fancy stuff today. This hand harvested, single origin matcha is of Uji Hikari cultivar matcha, hence its namesake.
Uji Hikari Matcha has a clean grassy fresh scent. Tezumi has the ratios and temperatures clearly outlined on their site for each tea. I used 60ml of 70c water and whisked in 1.5grams of sifted matcha.
Tasting of Tezumi’s Uji Hikari Matcha
Tastewise, this is an umami bomb of a matcha. Uji Hikari Matcha sips in portobello mushrooms, pine nuts, and sharp blades of fresh grass, all with a heavy cream texture. The aftertaste is a milky sweet grass with melted butter flavor and texture left in the mouth. Moments late, the fresh grass blooms even more.
This matcha is quite potent, yet sweet and incredibly smooth. I didn’t notice any astringency or bitterness. Maybe a slight tickle in the back of the throat. As the tea cools, the sweetness increases.
Despite me really not needing all the caffeine today, I went in for a second round.
Comments
If you love your umami matchas, Tezumi’s Uji Hikari Matcha balances nicely between nuts and creamy mushroom, as well as being refreshingly delicious. It’s not indulgent heavy like other umami bomb matchas, but comforting yet luxuriously creamy.
Uji Hikari Matcha is $31 for 20 grams. It is certainly for those who want excellent quality matcha! My sample did not last long, as after I drafted my review, I drank the matcha daily until it was gone.
