Strawberry Blizzard from Georgia Tea Co – Tea Review

Strawberry Blizzard is a fruit and spice herbal from Georgia Tea Co. This blend features strawberries,  apple bits, hibiscus blossoms, guava bits, orange bits, cardamom, cinnamon, foamy sugar drops, egg protein, strawberry slices and a bit of rose and mallow petals thrown in. FYI, this tea is not vegan friendly!

Alright Georgia Tea Co – this is my first time ordering with them. Their teas are very well priced. I actually went for larger sizes as it seemed more of a deal!

I’m guessing this tea is supposed to be iced, but might as well be thorough and try it hot.

The packaging on Georgia Tea Co‘s teas are interesting. This tea is a 2 oz, and it came in a big paper foldy bag, with the tea sealed inside plastic.

DRY LEAF: Best smelling tea out of my entire Georgia Tea Co order! Very sweet strawberry scent! I just want to smell this tea non stop!

Weird drop things in this tea – which look like little meringue chips.

Also – giant orange slices! I’ll save that for another steeping!

STEEPED: Very fragrant strawberry smell! Smells like I buried my face in a flat of strawberries!

This tea came out very red, practically black on camera. Sadly, the foamy meringue didn’t dissolve completely. I tasted one and it tasted like meringue off a pie!

I had to guess on the water temperature but the steeping times were listed on the packaging.  I went with boiling for 5 minutes.

TASTE: ULTRA TART! ALERT ALERT! 9/10 on the Tart-o-Meter! /sirens sounding!

If I get past the tart, I can taste some strawberry and a bit of spice. MUST ADD SUGAR NOW!

Strawberry Blizzard from Georgia Tea Co - Oolong Owl tea review (6)OMG SUPER TART IN YOUR FACE TART TART TARRRRT! SUGAR NOW!

Sweetened, Strawberry Blizzard is still violently tart! like a 7/10 on the Tart-o-Meter! Did I not add enough sugar? Maybe it’s on the bottom of my cup! Despite being pretty tart, I can now drink this tea without my face sucking into its self. There is a really nice fruityness – strawberry mostly. Mid and end of sip there is some light spice – I can barely pick up the cardamon, but I’m really sensitive to cardamon. The spice sounds a little weird, but it really rounds out the flavor not making this tea flat. The aftertaste is delicious tasting natural strawberry. I don’t notice any flavor from that weird egg foamy sugar thing. Don’t forget throughout all that, it’s pretty dang tart. As I drink more and more of my cup, I start getting some dryness in my throat, which might be from all the tart.

As this tea cools, it is much more drinkable – a good sign of good iced teas to come! I let my tea hating husband try and he thought it tastes like apple cider, but with strawberries. HE LIKE IT! OMG (though I figure he might, as the only other tea he liked was also a violent-tart blend)

Alright, time to stop puckering my face.

ICED: Okay, this is really good! I steeped Strawberry Blizzard with lots of german rock sugar and poured it over ice and lemon.I got a bit of creamyness right away, with loads of strawberry and a gentle hum of spice. Just a light tartness, like 3/10 on the Tart-o-meter.

Strawberry Blizzard from Georgia Tea co - Oolong Owl Tea review 5There’s an owl wearing a kimono trying to drink my tea!

What I did notice on future iced teas I made with Strawberry Blizzard is that I need to add A LOT of sugar to get rid of the tart flavor. Booo!

COMMENTS: Unless you really really love tart fruit teas, Strawberry Blizzard hot is not drinkable. Sorry guys. But hey, I know there are tart lovers out there – if you are one, you need this tea in your life. This is up there on the most tart teas I’ve ever drank – I seriously thought my face was going to implode!

Strawberry Blizzard iced is very good – I love that the teeny bit of spice adds interest making this iced tea unique and fun! I quite like this tea iced and I’d be tempted to buy more of it for summer! I’ll probably need to sweeten it with Splenda/whatever so I don’t pour lots of calories in my cup.
