November 2016 White2Tea Club feat. 2016 B__D_ Sheng Puer

2016-bd-w2t-club-oolongowl-6

November 2016 White2Tea club. This marks 2 years with the White2Tea club, which started in November 2014. For the 2 year mark, we got a single 50 gram sheng puer cake. It is Lincang material, picked in September, pressed October, and arrived in November. “B_D_” is a mad lib, go fill in whatever gutter brained stuff that comes to mind, but I automatically thought “Big Dinosaur.” Mr T-Rex is usually at my husband’s work desk, but he came home for a visit. He’s been busy chewing on mini tuochas and rawr’ing at Tea Owls, it seemed B_D_ was right. B_D_ … Continue reading, hoot!

2016 We Go High Sheng Puer from White2Tea

2016-we-go-high-white2tea-oolong-owl-2

I snagged a sample of White2Tea’s new 2016 We Go High Sheng Puer, feeling a little scared. This tea could be an inspirational of a puer “we beat those low blow bullies”  or the mega tea drunk style. 2016 We Go High Sheng Puer is described as “A blend of raw Puer material with a diverse profile. Sweet and soft, elegant soup. Weighty flavors appear in later steeps with a soft entry. Pressed tightly for the long haul, but very drinkable now.” Official Wrapper Art Dry Leaf and Steeping Instructions 2016 We Go High Sheng Puer is pretty fragrant. It … Continue reading, hoot!

2010 Puerh Mini Waffle Brick Shou from Treasure Green Tea Company

2010-mini-waffle-shou-treasure-green-oolong-owl-1

I purchased this tea during my last trip to Vancouver Canada. Treasure Green is a tea shop located in China Town in downtown Vancouver. The 2010 Puerh Mini Waffle Brick Shou was a must purchase as it is Treasure Green’s special edition pressing. Turns out, this puer is Bing Dao, Lincang material and it sounds like it is semi-fermented. I purchased the waffle version, but Treasure Green also sells a 200 gram cake that was too rich for my blood to treat a cake as a sample. They also have a special edition 2012 Bingdao sheng (cake and waffle) that I … Continue reading, hoot!

Year of the Monkey 2016 Spring Mengku from Bitter Leaf Teas

2016-spring-mengku-bitterleaf-tea-oolong-owl-2

Ooooh yeah, more Bitter Leaf Tea! Today we are drinking Year of the Monkey 2016 Spring Mengku, a Lincang region arbor material sheng puer. This puer is promised to be a good starter puer due to low bitterness and a daily drinker. Dry Leaf and Steeping Method It is always cool when you get a prime sample piece – a perfect crescent of puer cake! The scent is strongly fruity and a little smokey. The leaf is heavy on the silver contrast, with some long leaves and some with long twig. I went with the usual steeping method, 1 gram to … Continue reading, hoot!

2016 Teadontlie Sheng from White2Tea

2016-teadontlie-white2tea-oolong-owl-2

2016 Teadontlie is my favorite White2Tea Spring 2016 Sheng line out of all the samples I purchased. It took me awhile to actually post this review as I needed a couple cakes in my possession first… just in case. A photo posted by Char (@oolongowl) on Oct 22, 2016 at 1:46pm PDT Dry Leaf and Steeping Instructions Gorgeous leaf, I cannot stop looking at it! It looks almost like an oriental beauty but with less red tones. There’s silvers, light and dark greens, some hints of brown. Very pretty! The scent is what sets this puer apart from the other 2016s – … Continue reading, hoot!

2011 Moonlight White Cake from The Chinese Tea Shop – Tea Review

2011-moonlight-white-oolong-owl-1

I’ve been holding onto this 2011 Moonlight White (Yue Guang Bai) Cake for awhile. I am not sure why I was saving it, it is a very large 360 gram cake with a gorgeous wrapper. I bought this cake with my last visit to The Chinese Tea Shop in Vancouver, Canada. The Canadian Dollar was really low at the time, so I went on a buying spree, getting this cake without even sampling. I love Moonlight Whites, I had confidence that Daniel sells great tea, and a couple local tea buddies told me that this cake is amazing. So here is the … Continue reading, hoot!

October 2016 White2Tea Club

october-2016-white2tea-club-oolong-owl-1

White2Tea club time! This month we got 3 2016 Orange Drops (shou puer) and 2 new oolongs – Hot & Heavy and Dahongpao. /throws up hands. Bloody white balance hates me again. White2tea Club 2016 Orange Drop I just realized that last year’s October White2Tea club also included an orange however this year we got a nicer orange. These puer oranges (though these days more teas have been stuffed into oranges, like black and white tea) are a great new to puer tea drinkers or types looking branch away from flavored teas. I guess it is technically flavored, the tea is stuffed … Continue reading, hoot!

2015 Green Miracle Shou Puer from Yunnan Sourcing

2015-green-miracle-shou-puer-yunnan-sourcing-oolong-owl-6

Today’s review is Yunnan Sourcing’s 2015 Green Miracle Wild Arbor shou puer. This puer is pressed spring 2014 50-70 year old wild arbor tree material. Since this puer came out, I’ve been told by friends that this shou is really good. I got tea buddies who have finished a whole cake or two of Green Miracle. A tea friend sent me a sample and I thought it was good enough for me to buy cake  with my next Yunnan Sourcing order. Once this puer hit my radar, I’ve noticed the price has gone up twice. It is still very affordable for a 250 … Continue reading, hoot!

2012 Nannuo First Spring Sheng from Denong Tea – Tea Review

I encountered Denong Tea at the 2016 World Tea Expo and greatly enjoyed their teas. Some of them I have had, as Bana Tea Company carries a couple of them. While at the World Tea Expo, I lost my mind over their 2015 Enchanting Beauty Sheng and stockpiled. After the Expo, Denong Tea was awesome to send me some samples of their other shengs and one of them was this 2012 Nannuo First Spring Sheng. I figure I review this Nannuo first so I got more Enchanting Beauty for myself, HAHAHAHA! Denong Tea’s 2012 Nannuo First Spring Sheng is sold in 100 … Continue reading, hoot!

2016 Jingmai Love from Crimson Lotus Tea – Tea Review

2016-jingmai-love-oolong-owl-1

I always associate Crimson Lotus Tea for having excellent Jingmai sheng puer. Awesomely, Glen & Lamu, owners at Crimson Lotus Tea, gifted me a cake of the new Spring 2016 Jingmai LOVE sheng puer. Spring 2016 Jingmai LOVE is an affordable 200 gram hand blended puer cake. Stats on this puer is it is from Simao Prefecture, 1300m elevation, and wood fired. I love the design of Jingmai Love wrapper and greatly appreciate the back that clearly states the tea and seller. It saves the front for artwork, and I don’t have to tape more information to the wrapper or open … Continue reading, hoot!
