2022 June White2tea Club feat. 2022 Green Hype

It is time for our yearly HYPE train. White2tea 2022 Green Hype is a bang for your buck house blend, this one with some rustic brawler young and aged material. This tea is through the White2tea Club, but you can also purchase a cake without being in the club.

The leaves have a sweet fruity floral scent with a bit of a back of the cupboard vibe.

I followed the instructions on the handout, going 6 grams of leaf per 100ml of vessel size (1g per 16ml). After a rinse, the leaves have a smokey bitter scent with a powdery sweetness.

Tasting of White2tea’s 2022 Green Hype

First and Second Infusion: 2022 Green Hype starts off light and sweet with a stir-fried green pepper bitter bite in the background. The tea slowly opens up adding a juicy yellow pepper sweetness with a tickle of dryness that is easily drinkable. Texturewise, Hype is lightly silky slippery.

Third and Fourth Infusion: Fully opened up, 2022 Hype tastes of dry peach and peppers. Ever had sweet and sour pork but with peaches? Kind of like that. This tea is sweet, fruity, tangy, and a bit savory vegetal with a smokey wok hei. The aftertaste is sweet yellow peppers.

Fifth and Sixth Infusion: Full blown bitterness here, Hype is super punchy concentrated bitter pepper skins that sink slowly to sweetness in the aftertaste.

Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Infusion: 2022 Green Hype is waning here, lighter in flavor but with plenty of punchy bitter honeydew flavor. It’s sweet and bitter, with a back of the throat dryness. I actually enjoy the bitterness here, the honeydew flavor is quite nice and pleasurable.

Comments

This year’s Hype has an interesting blend of material with lots of sweetness and bite, but longevity fruity flavor. This is one to ride to the end and fight through the bitterness, but also does bitter well.

2022 Green Hype maybe not be for the faint of heart as this is very punchy, but a good bitter drinker if you love some of the really bitter offerings, but this is quite affordable, especially getting a whole cake from the White2tea Club.
