2023 February White2tea Club feat. 2023 Red W

The previous White2tea club started strong with Charlie shou. 2023 February White2tea club is another strong month – 2023 Red W and a sample of 2022 Tianjian Fuzhuan. This post is two parts as I got carried away trying the Tianjian and other heicha that it became less about the club. The photo below even shows Gold Fu is coming. That said, onto Red W.

2023 Red W is a cute 50 gram cake made of old tree autumn large Yunnan leaf puer material, made into a black tea. That is a lot of terms that could be tea buzzwords, but this club is humble about it. This little cake is a club exclusive.

Leaf and Steeping Method

The cake has the scent of dried fruity cherry and blackberries.

I used my glazed pot with a 1 gram per 15ml steeping ratio, gongfu steeped with boiling water. After a rinse, the scent is stronger, opening up the crispy fruity cherries.

Tasting of 2023 February White2tea Club 2023 Red W

First, Second, Third, and Fourth Infusion: Right away, Red W is thick in texture that fades to a streaky feel at the end of the sip. The flavor is creamy, sweet cherry wood, with a hint of wild herbs and chocolate. The mouthfeel is creamy and nice.

Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Infusion: My fifth infusion and further infusions went longer as the lid fell into my pitcher. Then the later infusions I was trying to act calm and taking too much time.

Red W is actually pretty bombproof. Despite the long infusions, this black tea has maintained the balanced woody, cherry, herbs, and chocolate notes, with just a bit of an astringent throat tickle.

Comments

2023 Red W is pleasant, no complaints black tea. It’s well balanced, great body and texture, but also easy to brew and likable. This will be hard to keep my hands off it, it’s a lovely black tea that I wanna drink every morning. Screw it, it is staying on my tea table and I’m drinking it.

As I mentioned earlier, the next post will be about Tianjian Fubrick along with other heicha. Stay tuned!
