Oolong Owl is back with more Tributary Tea’s oolongs! In my previous post, I drank their Nangang Baozhong, which was excellent. I have a sample collection of their oolongs I thought were captivating from their website descriptions. That said, the teas today are Shanlinxi Roasted, Muzha Tieguanyin Spring, and Qilaishan High Mountain. The description I got from Hello Tea Baby of what kind of tea shop they are is a group of tea producer friends who got together to sell the teas they are proud of. 2019 Spring Danger Zone Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

Back in 2018, Crimson Lotus Tea told me his adventure of visiting a tea forest in Hekai with a 15 foot king cobra, and the guide running for the hills. He’d then show me the photo he took and to “find the cobra.” After hearing this story, all us Crimson Lotus Tea fans wanted to get our hands on some giant snake infested tea. 2019 Jin Mu Dan Oolong from Old Ways Tea

What is Jin Mu Dan? I went in thinking this is a black tea like Jin Jun Mei, but this is a roasted oolong from Wuyishan, China. Old Ways Tea’s Jin Mu Dan, aka Golden Peony, is crafted by the Tea Research Institute of the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences to be thick in texture and has a floral scent. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaf of Jin Mu Dan Oolong smells like bread crusts and floral citrus osmanthus. 2019 Still Love You Shou Puer from Bana Tea Company

2019 Still Love You is a special shou puer that is made of, “…100 to 200-years-old, and adding an infusion made from Agarwood and Sweet Rice Scent Leaf,” from Bana Tea Company. Sweet Rice Scented tea isn’t too uncommon, but Agarwood is, at least here in the west. I haven’t had Agarwood in tea myself. A few times I had a chance to try I wanted to shell out for an outrageously priced tasting session of around $85 for an agarwood shou. Yi Shan Tea Factory 2018 Spring Old Arbor Yue Guang Bai White Tea via Yunnan Sourcing

I love a good Moonlight White / Yue Guang Bai white tea. Yunnan Sourcing’s Yi Shan Tea Factory 2018 Spring Old Arbor Yue Guang Bai is of unique interest as it has been left to wilt longer producing a darker white tea. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaf has a darker malty scent. The compression on this white tea cake was easy to break but you certainly need a tool to assist you. Today I’ll be checking out a selection of oolongs from Wang Family Tea – Bagua Shan Honey Scent, Lishan Lightly Roasted, and Alishan Jin Xuan Heavily Roasted. This tea company took the NW Tea Festival by storm with their delicious Taiwanese oolongs. I have previously reviewed their Sun Moon Lake black teas. All oolongs I used a ratio of 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size. They were all gongfu style steeped in boiling water. Taman Hong Shui Oolong from Floating Leaves Tea

I wanted to finish 2019 by posting my most profound tea experience of the year – Floating Leaves Tea’s Taman Hong Shui Oolong. Floating Leaves Tea got me with their Lalashan Hong Shui.
