July 2018 White2Tea Club feat 2018 Green Hype

Last year we got 2017 Hype in a White2Tea club box, which I tried it out of the gate and it tasted too young to drink now. When I knew there was a 2018 Green Hype coming, I drank the 2017 Hype and was surprised that it got massively better with a year on it. Morning Mojo and Bolder Breakfast Puer Black Teas from The Tea Spot

Continuing on from the review from the other week, I have more of The Tea Spot‘s blends – Morning Mojo and Bolder Breakfast! These two teas are quite good and both puer. Morning Mojo from The Tea Spot Morning Mojo is a blend of puer, black tea, orange peel, and vanilla flavoring. It smells like an orange creamsicle. I used 4 grams of tea, 12oz/350ml mug, and steeped it in boiling water for 3.5 minutes. The flavor is super creamy vanilla. DAVIDsTea Tea Press Travel Tea Tumbler

When DAVIDsTea came out with this new Tea Press, I got excited but didn’t pull the trigger right away as I had their Iced Tea Press, which is essentially the same product but in plastic instead of stainless steel. I eventually bought the Tea Press when they came out with a cute purple one. Then I bought a second one because they came out with a rainbow one. Uggg! Yuzu Citron Black Tea from Boseong Woohae Tea Plantation

During the World Tea Expo, I caved and purchased three of these Yuzu Citron Black Teas from some tea farmers from Boseong Woohae Tea Plantation. These are Yuzu oranges grown off their tea farm, hollowed and stuffed with Korean black tea. I admired them last year, but they are priced out of my range. This year they were a bit cheaper, but some still ran up to $30 an orange. A couple Korean sellers had these yuzu stuffed teas, but Boseong Woohae had the cheapest, so they won. 2016 Denong Black Tea from Denong Tea

I sampled the 2016 Denong Black tea at Denong Tea’s shop in Pasadena and recall it being very smooth and likable. It is a tea that they like to serve at tastings and festivals as it is friendly yet luxurious. I didn’t end up purchasing it though, as I threw a lot of money at their puer. Simple Steeps by The Tea Spot

I have been in travel mode this summer, both for tea festivals and escaping the home office as I lack an air conditioner. The Tea Spot sent me some of their teas packaged as Simple Steeps, which are pre-portioned to go teas for $5 a box. Vanilla and Mocha Matcha from The Whistling Kettle

Today I’m testing out The Whistling Kettle’s flavored matcha. These are labeled for matcha lattes, so you will want to mix these with milk. There is no sugar in these matchas, but obviously, they have added flavoring. Whistling Kettle does have an unflavored organic and ceremonial matcha if you want a traditional cup of matcha. I have the Vanilla and Mocha Matcha. Each package is 100 gram/3.50z of matcha. I use 3 grams for around 8oz/235ml serving, so that’s a lot of matcha lattes for $20 package. Guava Smoked Thyolo Moto Black Tea from Tea and Whisk

This Guava Smoked Thyolo Moto Black tea was a tea drunk purchase as I’m easy to upsell tea drunk with money burning in my pocket. I was at the World Tea Expo after party at Tea and Whisk. Lazy Literatus saw this tea and I bought it as I was like “This is nuts, what the hoot smokes guavas?” It turned out it is guava tree wood that is the smoking of this Malawi tea. Sunday Tea Hoots 40 – Grow a Tea Plant!

During the Tea Fest PDX Portland I purchased a single tea plant from Minto Island Tea. They sold three different sizes of tea plants, but I went with the youngest cheapest one in case I kill it quickly, then my investment was small. You can purchase your own plant here, as well as read planting and care instructions. So, I am no gardening person, I am quite terrible and exceptional at killing plants.
