Shan First Flush Green Tea from Shan Valley – Oolong Owl Tea Review

Shan First Flush Green tea is a Myanmar grown first harvest green. This tea is sold by Shan Valley, online seller of Northern Myanmar (Burma) teas. This tea is a reserve tea that is available for a limited time. Shan Valley sent me four teas to review, but today I’ll be doing a thorough review of Shan First Flush Green tea, my hands down favorite of the four. The first noticeable quality about Shan First Flush Green tea is the price – 6oz for $8 for a first flush green is a pretty good price! By the way, Shan First Flush Green tea comes in both loose… Continue reading, hoot!

Mango Spiced Chai Tea from Hula Girl – Oolong Owl Tea Review

Mango Spiced Chai Tea is a black tea chai mix sold by Hula Girl. I bought this tea mix from Hilo Hattie when I was in Hawaii, however it looks like you can buy from Hula Girl The Store online, or from Amazon.com. Trip to Hawaii not required! I got this out of desperation as early into my tours of Hawaii, I didn’t see any loose leaf tea, just the bagged stuff. I thought the promise of mango flavor sounded really neat for a chai. I used to drink, I think Tazo Chai Concentrate mix, but moved onto loose leaf chai… Continue reading, hoot!

Shan Lin Xi High Mountain Concubine Oolong from Eco-cha – Oolong Owl Tea Review

Shan Lin Xi High Mountain Concubine Oolong is a northern Taiwan produced oolong sold by Eco-cha, online seller of Taiwan teas. Eco-Cha has a nice write up about this tea, but in sum, Shan Lin Xi High Mountain Concubine Oolong is similar to an Oriental Beauty, but a different oolong variety and leaf rolling method. Similar to Oriental Beauty oolongs, this tea is munched on by specific bugs to encourage new growth, thus a big flavor change. With that said, this type of tea has not been treated with pesticides, thus more work to make as well as in many cases, a… Continue reading, hoot!

Ruby Pie Tea from Butiki Teas – Oolong Owl Tea Review

Ruby Pie is a khongea golden tippy assam black with vegan chocolate chip bunny grahams, cinnamon chips, freeze dried strawberries, and hibiscus. This fun, strawberry rhubarb pie tea blend is sold by Butiki Teas, an Oolong Owl favorite US online tea seller. Shout out to Sarah for winning – this blend was a custom blend concept that won Butiki Teas‘ Custom Blend contest back in 2012. Man, I wish my blend won, but hey, all the ideas looked really good so really whatever won and was up for sale on the site was going be good no matter what! To… Continue reading, hoot!

Lupicia Honolulu – Oolong Owl’s Cruise to Hawaii part 3

During my cruise to Hawaii, I was lucky to go to Lupicia in Honolulu! I’ve been to the Lupicia in Torrance, California, but their location in Honolulu is much bigger and appears to carry more of their tea lineup. Lupicia is located in Ala Moana Center, on the ground floor. It was really easy to find, at least for me as I was entering from where the buses and trolleys unload. After some brief wandering around the mall, I found it! Whoa, big store! This is probably one of the biggest tea shops I’ve been to so far. All along the left wall is tea that… Continue reading, hoot!

Fleury Doux Champagne Tea from Art of Tea – Oolong Owl Tea Review

Fleury Doux Champagne is an organic white peony and ceylon black tea blend with rose petals and muscatel grape flavor. This fancy tea blend is sold by Art of Tea, US tea seller. This is one of those tea blends I couldn’t pass up. Something about mixing teas, like white + black or green + black I find fun to try. The teas combined are on different levels, requiring different treatments, how do they make the blend work without it being over steeped? Why do they need to add the second tea? Ah, tea blender fun that I’m happy to… Continue reading, hoot!

White Night from Mandala Tea – Oolong Owl Tea Review

White Night Tea is a white tea sold by Mandala Tea, an Oolong Owl favorite US based tea seller. Tea peeps – this tea, White Night Tea, is processed in a certain way, encouraging it to age. With that said, in a few years, this white will become a black tea! SUPER HOOTY COOL! Mandala Tea has so many cool teas! Let’s jump right into tasting White Night tea with a new Tea Owl, Formal Night Tea Owl! Dry Leaf White Night tea has a pretty interesting dry leaf – it’s big, open leaf with some fuzzy hairs. Some of the leaves are silver, some black. The… Continue reading, hoot!

Organic Herbal Blue Tea from BlueChai – Oolong Owl Tea Review

BlueChai is a caffeine free, organic herbal  butterfly pea flowers tea sold by BlueChai.com. These flowers are harvested in Northern Thailand. I ordered a free sample of BlueChai, I didn’t look much into what this tea was. A spicy tea? Though, it is confusing that “chai” can also just mean “tea”. Once I got the package, on the label, it states “pea flowers”. I’ve never had pea flower tea, so trying this tea will be fun! Dry Leaf Really pretty, chunky, big leafed blue flowers with yellow centers, dressed with the odd green stem and leaf. Not much scent to these flowers.… Continue reading, hoot!

Mountain Organic Indonesian Black Tea from Tea at Sea – Oolong Owl Tea Review

Mountain Organic Indonesian Black is high altitude black tea grown at high altitude on the Halimun Mountains. This tea is sold by Tea at Sea, online Canadian tea seller. First off, shout out to Tea at Sea being Canadian with offices in Vancouver, my hometown! Tea at Sea‘s website is very cool – awesome sea and tea photos! I love the pairing of sea and tea, especially after going  on a cruise and spent much of my time drinking tea and watching the ocean.  Tea at Sea sells 5 gram samples, and the next size of 50 grams you get a free tin. I’m happy to… Continue reading, hoot!
