I snagged myself a Blooming Glass TeaPot from DAVIDsTEA a few months ago.
It was on sale (whooo!) and I needed a glass pot for all the blooming teas I’ve been collecting and not using.
I bought this teapot online – so it came all the way from eastern Canada to California! I was really worried it would of been smashed. However, my tea pot arrived in perfect condition – everything was packaged very well!
voyeuristic tea pot! No wait, that’s me!
This tea pot is large. 40 oz / 1.2 Liters. Totally a tea pot to take out to share tea with a couple people.
Overall, feels quite sturdy despite being made of thin glass.
The lid has a bump to keep it locked on. The lid fits on nicely, and stays in place while the pot is being poured – though when you get to the last cup of tea, it can fall off.
the lid is a little steamy looking here as I took it off the teapot to take the photo.
DAVIDSTEA is etched on the bottom of the teapot.
You only really notice the etching when the pot is empty. Or if you feel like living dangerously by lifting the teapot in the air with tea in it.
I feel kinda bad as all the teas I’ve put in it so far haven’t been DavidsTea 😛
In use, the body and lid are VERY HOT! Do not touch! However, the handle is cool the touch!
The blooming glass teapot pours LIKE A DREAM! Wow! Best pour I’ve seen – no drips and very controlled!
My only complaint with the design of this tea pot is the handle – it is very thin and feels awkward to pour, especially with a near full pot of tea. With the thin handle, it also makes the pot feel very heavy when tea is inside. Since the rest of the pot is crazy hot, you can’t touch the base or spout for support without busting out oven mitts.
The strainer does a fair job despite its looks. It’s a wire coil that rests on the inside of the pot, with a wire that hooks over the spout. It is removable and easy to put back in.
I testedthe coil strainer with a white tea and it filtered out many of the pieces, even small pieces.
Just a little bit of debris in my cup. That coil strainer did well!
The Blooming glass teapot looks pretty cool empty – all the leaves pressed up against the glass!
I’m not sure if I’d trust this pot with something like rooibos, but then, if you want to show off the pot, you’d be using more attractive teas. I had no tea debris with using a blooming tea, though only a few small pieces broke off.
Well, just for you tea peeps – I quickly tried out this pot with a rooibos blend! Lemon Lime Cream Tart!
Gah, I’m scared! That’s all going into my cup!
While it steeped, lots of rooibos bits floated through the coil strainer. For my initial pour, it was a burst of rooibos bits in my cup. So who ever gets the first cup will be very sad! Though, it appears that the coil strainer works better after a little pouring as the strainer is all jammed with rooibos and other tea bits!
However, there is still a little that does escape so the second cup wasn’t that drinkable as rooibos floats on the top.
With that said, I’d find another way to steep up a rooibos like tea in this pot.
I decided to test whether DavidsTea’s metal perfect infuser that came with my Bubble Pot worked with this glass tea pot.
It fits in the tea pot! However, it is a little wobbly as it doesn’t sit inside the pot like it does in the Bubble pot. The lid fits nicely ontop the infuser though! I’d personally use that perfect infuser with teas that have lots of small bits and don’t expand much, like rooibos. The infuser may be too small for the size of the glass pot. And really, the coil strainer works very well anyways.
A surprise: DavidsTEA’s blooming glass teapot retains heat quite well! It’s not as good as their Bubble Tea pot, but pretty good and better than I expected. I’ve owned a couple glass tea pots so far. The both did not retain heat at all, so I didn’t use them. I made my blooming tea, watched it bloom, took photos, drank a cup, left and came back 20 minutes later and my next cup was still a good hot temperature, when I thought it should of been lukewarm or cold. I also kept the lid on, I imagine that plays a huge difference.
Overall, I’m very happy with this tea pot. This glass tea pot kills my previous glass tea pots! I want to use this tea pot more for its attractiveness and good performance! It is a tea pot that works best with full leaf or blooming teas. The thin handle is a minor issue. Since the thin handle and VERY HOT lid and body, I wouldn’t use this tea pot around kids and crazy pets.
Now I need more people to come over and drink tea with me! This tea pot is wayy to big for 1!
BONUS ROOIBOS GLOWY SHOT!
