Brigadoon Tea from Adagio Teas

Breakfast teas have made a comeback in my tea drinking. My work schedule is just too busy to gongfu. Lazy style just gets over brewed. I have time for a 3pm pick me up with tea and a biscuit. I’ve heard about Adagio’s Brigadoon Tea from others, but never got it as it is sold only on February 29th, so only 1 day every 4 years. I reliably get suckered by limited edition things. Adagio kindly sent me a tin of Brigadoon early.

So what’s up with Brigadoon? This tea is named after a Scottish legend of an enchanted town stuck in a time warp, only being visible one day every hundred years. The story is popularly portrayed in musicals and film, the 1974 is the most popular. I’m too young for that, and I’m not into musicals, but mentioning this tea to elders got them very excited.

Brigadoon is a blend of assam and keemun black teas, silver needle white tea, and blue cornflower. It is light on the white tea, but the buds stand out in the sea of black tea and blue flowers. White tea might alarm folks, but white tea does fine steeped in boiling water.

Tasting of Adagio Teas’ Brigadoon Tea

The leaves smell slightly floral. Beautiful tea with blue cornflowers.

I used 4.5g of tea (which was around 3 teaspoons) in a 10oz, steeped for 3 minutes with boiling water.

I hit that sweet spot – strong flavor and it’s not bitter. Brigadoon is super smooth, and sweet and peaty. The assam and keemum have a malty mineral dark chocolate wood flavor, with the silver needle adding a hint of sweet floral. Brigadoon’s texture is a little buttery with a tickle of astringency in the back of the tongue.

Brigadoon is a breakfast tea, but I felt it was very drinkable without milk or sugar. I tried a splash of oat milk and it was a bit too light for me, likely if I used a bit more leaf I’d like it more, but I also prefer my teas with milk to be strong. This did pair nicely with an Adventureful Girl Scout cookie. I’m eating my last box as my Girl Scout is resupplying me soon.

If you want to get your hands on Adagio Tea’s Brigadoon Tea, you can only get it on Feb 29th, 2024. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until 2028 to try it or stock up. Adagio has this tea come in a tin and a zip bag, but the tin will keep this tea fresher for longer.

Adagio Teas has other limited edition teas, like Earl Grey Bella Luna, which is only available on specific lunar phases.
