Crimson Lishan from Floating Leaves Tea

Today’s review is Floating Leaves Tea’s Crimson Lishan. This is a High Mountain Lishan that was processed as a black tea. I can get enough Taiwanese black teas, so I was excited to get my hands on a black Lishan. I sampled Crimson Lishan in the shop, then bought 4oz worth. Leaf and Steeping Method Crimson Lishan has a cinnamon, grape, and plum scent. I used 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, gongfu steeping in boiling water. The hot leaf still has a plummy cinnamon scent. Tasting of Floating Leaves Tea’s Crimson Lishan First and Second Infusion:… Continue reading, hoot!

Lychee Purple Leaf, Turmeric Mango Green, and Citrus Sonata Oolong from Artful Tea

Today’s review is a selection of flavoured tea blends from Artful Tea. Artful Tea sells flavoured and unflavored loose leaf teas. The teas I’m trying today are in sampler packaging, which they fill a tea bag filter with around 5-7grams of tea, enough for a large 12oz serving steeped western style. Artful Tea’s Lychee Purple Leaf Tea Lychee Purple Leaf Tea is a blend of Kenyan Purple Leaf tea, apple, pineapple, lemon peel, currants and lychee flavour. The dry leaf smells like blueberries and lychee. I recall Purple Leaf being quite sensitive to temperature, so I used 175F for around… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Smoked Black Tea from Old Ways Tea

Today’s review is Old Ways Tea’s 2018 Smoked Black Tea, also known as Yan Xun Xiao Zhong, Zhen Shan Xiao Zhong, or Lapsang Souchong. This tea promises a traditional pine smoke job, but not being acrid. We shall see, as smokey teas and I can be hit or miss but Old Ways Tea sells amazing tea that I save for special occasions. Old Ways Tea generally sells their teas in prepackaged sizes. For this Smoked Tea, it is sold in 5 gram packets. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaf smells smokey campfire that got treated with a round of sandalwood… Continue reading, hoot!

Golden Monkey Black and Drunken Concubine Tieguanyin Oolong from Silk Road Teas

Today’s review is a double review of Silk Road Teas’ Golden Monkey Black and Drunken Concubine Zui Gui Tieguanyin Oolong. I jumped at the chance to review something from Silk Road Teas as I’ve heard many good things about them. Golden Monkey Jin Hou Black Tea First up is Golden Monkey, aka Jin Hou, a Fujian black tea harvested in March 2018. I seem to not review much black tea these days. Vendors seem happy to send oolong and puer my way, and I haven’t been buying any black tea as my black tea stash is large and ageing. Leaf and… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Arbor White and Arbor Red Tea from White2Tea

Happy American Thanksgiving! Forget the turkey, let’s gushu. Today is a comparison review of White2Tea’s 2018 Arbor White and Arbor Red Tea. Yes, red and white rolls off the tongue better than white and red, but I am drinking these from light to dark! Though I got the cake of Arbor White as I knew that is a safe blind purchase for me, I only bought a sample of Arbor Red for review purposes. I do like black tea, but not enough to want to shell out the cost of a full cake blind. Both teas are the same Old… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Spring Beyond the Clouds Black Tea from Essence of Tea

My 2018 Spring Beyond the Clouds black tea came as a free sample with my last order at Essence of Tea. Beyond the Clouds is Ai Lao Mountain material. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaf is strangely a little green. Reading up on it, this black tea is lightly oxidized to give it more character. I leafed pretty hard here, using 1 gram of leaf per 13ml of vessel size, gongfu steeped in boiling water. I like leafing black tea a little harder for maximum flavour. The hot rinsed leaf smells like candied red fruits Tasting of Essence of Tea’s… Continue reading, hoot!

Minto Island Black Tea – Oregon USA Grown Tea

I am excited to show you all today some Oregon grown tea! Minto Island is a tea farm in Willamette Valley in Western Oregon that produces small batch teas, as well as tea plants for purchase. They have an assortment of different teas, but I went with the Minto Island Black tea. Right on the box, it says when it was harvested – June 4th, 2018. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaves are quite light and full, taking a lot of space in the gaiwan. The leaves oddly smell like pumpkin spice. I used 1 gram of leaf to 15ml… Continue reading, hoot!

Morning Mojo and Bolder Breakfast Puer Black Teas from The Tea Spot

Continuing on from the review from the other week, I have more of The Tea Spot‘s blends – Morning Mojo and Bolder Breakfast! These two teas are quite good and both puer. Morning Mojo from The Tea Spot Morning Mojo is a blend of puer, black tea, orange peel, and vanilla flavoring. It smells like an orange creamsicle. I used 4 grams of tea, 12oz/350ml mug, and steeped it in boiling water for 3.5 minutes. The flavor is super creamy vanilla. The running theme of Tea Spot’s puer and black tea bases is they give a smooth yet sweet dirty… Continue reading, hoot!

Yuzu Citron Black Tea from Boseong Woohae Tea Plantation

During the World Tea Expo, I caved and purchased three of these Yuzu Citron Black Teas from some tea farmers from Boseong Woohae Tea Plantation. These are Yuzu oranges grown off their tea farm, hollowed and stuffed with Korean black tea. I admired them last year, but they are priced out of my range. This year they were a bit cheaper, but some still ran up to $30 an orange. A couple Korean sellers had these yuzu stuffed teas, but Boseong Woohae had the cheapest, so they won. Leaf and Steeping Instructions This guy weighs in at 26 grams (almost… Continue reading, hoot!
