February 2022 White2tea Club Feat. Yancha Sample Tasting

It’s White2tea club time, and this is February 2022’s box. Oh boy, this is “sample all of White2tea’s newest yanchas” month, so all of these are available for purchase. I’m skipping the Dahongpao this year – it’s a basic intro yancha – let’s get into the more interesting ones. For all teas here I used a gongfu ratio of 1gram of leaf per 15ml of gaiwan size, steeped at a boil with no rinse. Stone Sparrow The leaves have a roasty and dried fruit sweet scent. After a steep, the leaves smell like a powdery fruit cocktail. Stone Sparrow is… Continue reading, hoot!

2022 February Old Ways Tea Club feat. Huang Mei Comparison Tasting

As usual, the Old Ways Tea club delivers a strong selection of teas to comparison taste and a special gift! The special gift is a teacup with a fruity branch design. I eventually saw all the designs through my other tea friends’ boxes, and they are all awesome cups! Jin Xuan from 2022 February Old Ways Tea Club I’m diving into the Jin Xuan first. Yes, Jin Xuan is just a cultivar, but all the ones I’ve had tend to be Taiwanese style rolled oolongs, so this version is a fun change of pace. The leaves smell toasty and nutty.… Continue reading, hoot!

2022 January White2tea Club feat. 2021 Charlie Shou Puer

Welcome to the 2022 January White2tea club! As it has been over the last couple of years, we start the year off with an exclusive shou cake, Charlie. This Charlie cake was pressed in December 2021 and has aged material. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaves smell of funky earth and mushrooms. As usual, my puer gongfu ratio I used is 1gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, steeped in boiling water. I did two rinses as this tea smells a bit freshly pressed funky. After two rinses, 2021 Charlie has a smooth dark chocolate scent with no funk.… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 November White2tea club feat. 2021 Sun Fu

The 2021 November White2tea club has the yearly amazing and exclusive Old Arbor Autumn Sheng Puer mini cake. However, also included is a sample of their new 2021 Sun Fu! 2021 Sun Fu I’ve been a quiet Fu Zhuan addict for years now. I feel I don’t talk about Fu Brick much as I fear comments of “Fu is gross dirty tea” but also “more Fu Brick for me”. Part, I don’t want people to know I have a problem. There are days I start with a gongfu session of fu and I lose 2 hours like a junkie. I’m… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 October White2tea Club feat. Liu An and Shou Samples

Finally, the 2021 October White2tea club! This month is a sampling extravaganza of White2tea’s latest teas. (yes yes, I’m behind a few months on the White2tea club as it is February – I’m catching up!) 2021 Liu An Gongjian I’ve had Liu An only a handful of times and half the experiences I wasn’t brewing it. This is also the youngest Liu An I’ve tried. The leaves smell nutty and sweet. I went with a 1g per 15ml ratio, steeped at a boil. This tea commands to be rinsed at least once or twice as the flavor is very low… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 December Old Ways Tea Club

Old Ways Tea club, let’s go! December’s box has 2021 Yua Hua Dong Rou Gui, Zhang Ping Shui Xian, Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong, and Persimmon slices. The persimmon slices did not last long. Last year we got them. In anticipation of said persimmon slices, I went on a rampage buying 12lbs of persimmons, dehydrated and ate them all. Yua Hua Dong Rou Gui from 2021 December Old Ways Tea Club The leaves have a soft woodsy plum scent. For this tea, I went with 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size instead of the usual over leafing. After… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 August White2tea Club feat. Moon Bear White

International shipping really screwed me on the August White2tea club package – I got it in late November. Something about August packages that were really slow. Now I’m catching up. When I drank the September club it referenced these teas, so finally, it is time! Today is the long awaited August White2tea club. This one I was pumped for as it has an exclusive white cake! 2021 Everyman’s Baimudan The leaves smell of weedy paper. The leaves are incredibly light. My ratio is the usual 1gram of leaf per 20ml, steeped at a boil. After an infusion, the leaves refresh… Continue reading, hoot!

Atlas Tea Club feat. Teas from Thailand

Back again with Atlas Tea Club – a monthly tea subscription that sends you tea from a new country! I think this tea club is such a great idea as it explores one’s horizons, provides tea education, and no international shipping to deal with. The previous box I wrote about is the Nepal month. Today, I have teas from Thailand – Golden Lily Green, Gui Fei White, and Honey Scent Black! Not pictured is a baggie of paper infusers. Note: Typically everyone gets 2 teas per box with a choice of Greens, Variety, or Black teas – it appears I… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 October Old Ways Tea Club feat. Rougui Tea Master’s Set

2021 October Old Ways Tea Club – Issue 7! Gosh, it’s been a year on this tea club and it doesn’t feel like it. This month is a Rougui Tea Master’s Set – Maocha, First Roast, and Second Roast. Rougui Maocha from 2021 October Old Ways Tea Club Rougui Maocha is biscuity and floral scented. To make a 5g serving I pulled out almost a gram of sticks – it is worth sorting as sticks don’t add much flavor. I went for a lighter gongfu ratio than I usually do for these oolongs, so 1 gram of leaf per 15ml… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 September White2tea Club feat. 2018 Gongmei

Let’s go! 2021 September White2tea club time! In this box is a fancy 2021 Baimudan and 2018 Gongmei whites, as well as 2021 Yesheng Gushu Hongcha. If you were waiting on my 2021 August club post, China Post still has it, so I’ve just decided to proceed with September. August through November I’ve had all my packages from China either show up immediately or months. 2021 Baimudan White from 2021 September White2tea club The fresh Baimudan leaves are shades of light and dark green mixed with fuzzy silver buds, all with an itchy freshly cut timothy hay and floral scent.… Continue reading, hoot!
