June 2020 White2Tea Club feat. 2020 Green Hype Sheng Puer

Another year, another Green Hype sheng puer in the White2Tea Club. Every year I enjoy Hype more and more. This sheng puer house blend always tastes good and is of good value (at this time, $38 for a 200gram cake), especially if you got it through the White2Tea club ($29.99, including shipping!). This month also included a 2020 Nightlife mini, but I set that tea aside for later. Leaf and Steeping Method 2020 Green Hype’s leaves have a strong fuzzy peach aroma. As usual, I did gongfu style, 1gram to 15ml ratio, steeped in boiling water. After a rinse, the… Continue reading, hoot!

May 2020 White2tea Club – 2020 The Thing Still Is Sheng Puer The legend that is The Thing Still Is starts with an Instagram video up a mountain. I love these 50 gram cakes as the quality is crazy high, is it is a nice treat. The leaves smell of floral green peppers. I used a gongfu ratio of 1gram of leaf per 16ml of vessel… Continue reading, hoot!

Puer Green and Puer Black Tea from Pique Tea Crystals

After being impressed with Pique Tea‘s Wuyi Oolong and White Peony White Tea, I had to get my hands on their puer. Their puer sports 250-year-old trees and triple toxin screened for mold and metals. Pique Tea’s Pu’er Green Tea I used their suggested 175F/ 79c water, but I find going around 185-200F/ 85-93c has a more pleasing, stronger taste. However, if you do not like bitter, go to the 175F/ 79c water temperature. Pique Tea’s Puer Green is surprisingly good. It sips in smooth in texture tasting of driftwood with a strong stone fruit floral aftertaste that lingers for… Continue reading, hoot!

HER-CHA is a tea startup from California that specializes in premium teas that are packed in small serving tins to preserve their freshness. In the HER-CHA line up are six teas – Green Oolong, Dark Oolong, Black, Wild White, Green, and Ripe Puer. Each tin has 1 to 2 servings, comfortably to do a small teapot brewed western style, or a 100ml gongfu style. The Discovery Collection contains one of each tea in their selection. The packing of this tea collection is well put together and of high quality, ensuring the leaves are kept intact. It is packaged perfectly for… Continue reading, hoot!

2019 Well, Well Sheng Puer from White2tea

I am slowly going through all my White2tea samples I’ve bought over the last year and finally got to 2019 Well, Well sheng puer. The material is a blend of different regions, promising to be subtle, “elegant, and ruthless”. Sign me up! Leaf and Steeping Method Well, Well’s leaf scent is light and leaning floral and sweet. For this tea like other sheng puers, I went gongfu style with 1 gram of leaf per 15ml vessel size, steeped in boiling water. The hot leaf has steamed rice in banana leaf and candle wax smell but with a slight nose wrinkle… Continue reading, hoot!

2019 Modern Witch Shou Puer from White2Tea

I love everything about White2tea’s 2019 Modern Witch on paper – the wrapper has cool skulls and the description of interesting bitterness and balanced flavors. I could not resist and blindly purchasing a whole cake without sampling. Leaf and Steeping Method 2019 Modern Witch Shou has a cream funky caramel scent. The compression is quite tight on this shou cake, so you will need a good puer tea knife to get at it. I went with 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, gongfu (with 2 rinses) steeped in boiling water. Once the leaves are introduced to hot… Continue reading, hoot!

2020 March White2Tea Club feat. Yesheng Hongcha and 2003 Nuo Xiang Shou Brick

2020 March White2tea club includes an unusual black tea, Yesheng Hongcha Gushu, a sample of 2003 Nuo Xiang Shou Brick, and a daily drinker Golden Oolong. I’ll be reviewing the first two teas as I imagine my readers are more curious about those. The Yesheng black is a club exclusive tea whereas the Shou brick is not. Yesheng Hongcha Gushu from 2020 March White2tea club I had a laugh with the description of this tea is a hoarded stash. I can somewhat relate, but not in that quantity. The leaves have a strong fragrance of tart raisins and dried cherries… Continue reading, hoot!

2019 Big Old Ass Tree Sheng Puer from Bitterleaf Teas

I purchased a sample of 2019 Big Old Ass Tree with my last Bitterleaf Teas order. I am partial to Hekai these days as I like how potent and balanced it can be but also I can’t pass up old and wild tree teas. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaf scent is light but has a floral tangy scent. Steeped up the leaf smells lightly floral, creamy nutty with some fresh green bean. Tasting of Bitterleaf Teas’ 2019 Big Old Ass Tree Sheng Puer First and Second Infusion: The first impression is Big Old Ass Tree is it is thick… Continue reading, hoot!

2019 Fall into the Danger Zone Autumn Sheng Puer from Crimson Lotus Tea

It is time to taste Crimson Lotus Tea’s 2019 Fall into the Danger Zone, an autumn Hekai sheng puer. I greatly enjoyed their spring Danger Zone and I did not hesitate to preorder the fall pressing. 2019 Fall into the Danger Zone is the same tea garden, same king cobras, but autumn material. Leaf and Steeping Method The dry leaves have a sweet artichoke scent. As usual, I used a gongfu ratio of 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, steeped in boiling water. After infusing, the hot leaf smells also sweet and of artichokes. Tasting of Crimson… Continue reading, hoot!

2019 Gore of the Forest Sheng Puer from White2tea

2019 Gore of the Forest is promised to be a complex and pithy sheng blend. I didn’t hesitate to purchase a sample of this tea with my last White2tea order as I tend to enjoy this price bracket. Leaf and Steeping Method The dry leaf has a powdery fruity sweet scent, like peachy fruit leather. Nothing new, I used a gongfu ratio of 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, steeped in quick boiling water infusions. After a rinse, the leaves smell like rice porridge. Tasting of White2tea’s 2019 Gore of the Forest Sheng Puer First and Second… Continue reading, hoot!
