2019 December White2tea Club feat. 2019 XXXmas Love Pistol Sheng Puer

The 2019 December White2teaclub is an exclusive 200gram cake of 2019 XXXmas Love Pistol Edition. 2019 XXXmas Love Pistol is a huangpian (big ugly yellow leaves) blend of sheng puer. I had to drink this for Christmas, despite not trying all the October and November White2tea club teas yet. This year’s huangpian holiday cake is my favorite wrapper so far. I was planning to frame the wrapper but with my Black Friday White2tea order, I got the matching chabu! 2018 Warm Fuzzies Shou Puer from Yunnan Sourcing

Yunnan Sourcing has some excellent house brand shou puer. With my last Yunnan Sourcing order earlier in 2019, I bought a cake of 2018 Warm Fuzzies as I was in the mood for inky dark shou. Warm Fuzzies is a blend of material from 2015 to 2018 from Lincang, Simao, and Xishuangbanna, in Yunnan China. Leaf and Steeping Method 2018 Warm Fuzzies shou cake is a subtly marbled gold and brown. After much debate, I blind caked White2tea’s 2019 Both Steal Boats and Meet Halfway, being sold on tea friends positive review, as well as White2Tea’s email description: “ I like it when Qi jumps out of nowhere and stabs me like Arya in the godswood.” Since getting Both Steal Boats, I’ve had a couple of sessions alone and with friends, and hoot, this is a good tea. 2000 Gold Dust Fuzhuan Anhua Heicha from Bitter Leaf Teas

I love moldy Fuzhuan (aka Fu Brick) teas. When Bitterleaf Tea came out with the 2000 Gold Dust Fuzhuan Anhua Heicha, I bought a full 250 gram bag. During the 2019 NW Tea Festival, this was the tea in my Fu Zhuan focus tasting class. As much as I love owning stupidly large bricks of Fuzhuan, Bitterleaf Tea’s broken bag makes it more convenient to drink. 2018 Beneath an Emerald Sea is a sheng puer by Crimson Lotus tea. My experience with the 2016 version was it was very shengry, causing a party of people to eat an entire tray of rice krispies at my BBQ party. I sampled the 2018 version of Beneath an Emerald Sea with Crimson Lotus Tea right before I left for my Europe cruise. I enjoyed it so much and felt it had potential, so I bought a cake then I went cruising with this tea. Looking back, I enjoyed 2018 more than the 2016 tea. 2017 Rhizome Sheng Puer from Kuura

Today’s tea review is Australian based tea seller Kuura’s 2017 Rhizome Sheng Puer. Rhizome is a blend of 2017 Spring and Fall material from a single forest in Xishuangbanna. I purchased this tea on a whim, thinking the description sounded fun and I like the name. The houseplant obsession has leeched into my tea drinking as I got exciting thinking this tea will rhizome clone out plant babies from the soil. 2018 Impression Sheng Puer from Yunnan Sourcing

I was actually a fan of the last Yunnan Sourcing Impression sheng puer cake, so I caved and purchased the next 2018 Impression sheng puer cake. The 2017 Impression was a good tea for the price, so I felt it was worth a blind caking another one. At this time of writing, the 2018 Impression is $28 for a 400gram cake, so still a deal. I purchased a cake of 2018 Dark Depths Shou Puer online a few weeks after it was released. I was teased by the original art, by Carl Faulkner, which is hung in Crimson Lotus Tea’s living room and I couldn’t wait to give this tea a try.
