2001 Aged Peony Bai Mu Dan from Silk Road Teas

I am back with another Silk Road Teas. After the excellent showing of Golden Monkey Black and Drunken Concubine Oolong, I am really excited to try Silk Road Teas’ 2001 Aged Peony. The package says simply “Aged Bai Mu Dan” but the website goes into details that this is a high-grade Fujian Zhending Big White varietal from 2001. I have had a number of aged Shou Mei, but not as many Bai Mu Dan. The last aged Bai Mu Dan I had was a 2013 and it still has a bit of green fragility to it. Leaf and Steeping Method… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Censers White Tea from White2Tea

2018 seemed the year I went open wallet and ask questions later on white teas. I bought White2Tea’s 2018 Censers white cake blind. Censers is a pressed Guizhou Province Bai Mu Dan (aka White Peony). Most of the white teas we find are from Fujian Province and sometimes Yunnan. That said, we are in for something a little different. There was a mess up with my order and I got a sample of censers before I got the cake. I am unwrapping to show off the cake but will be drinking off the sample to finish it off. Leaf and… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Wild Tree Purple Moonlight White from Jinggu from Yunnan Sourcing

I’ve wanted Yunnan Sourcing’s Wild Tree Purple Moonlight White tea since around 2012 or 2013. I kept skipping it due to waiting for a sale or to put into the next big order (then forgot) and even a few times it got yanked out of my cart to meet shipping price thresholds. Other times it simply sold out before I could order. I went hard on white tea for 2018, or at least it became that way as white tea is pretty good and not as painful as puer prices, so I bought a bag. A 250 gram bag. 2018… Continue reading, hoot!

September 2018 White2Tea Club feat. Fuding vs Yunnan White tea

The 2018 September White2tea Club is two white teas. Not just any white teas, we got a white tea region comparison education session. I annoyingly switched my tea order for my tasting compared to the handout. The first tea is a 2018 Baimudan (aka White Peony) from Fuding. This is a classic white tea, Baimudan being an early picking with both leaves and buds. The second tea is Zhanglang Yunnan White, which is puer material processed as white tea, from the puer region of Menghai. Puer material processed as white tea are becoming more easier to find these days. Leaf… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Arbor White and Arbor Red Tea from White2Tea

Happy American Thanksgiving! Forget the turkey, let’s gushu. Today is a comparison review of White2Tea’s 2018 Arbor White and Arbor Red Tea. Yes, red and white rolls off the tongue better than white and red, but I am drinking these from light to dark! Though I got the cake of Arbor White as I knew that is a safe blind purchase for me, I only bought a sample of Arbor Red for review purposes. I do like black tea, but not enough to want to shell out the cost of a full cake blind. Both teas are the same Old… Continue reading, hoot!

1990s Shou Mei White Tea from The Chinese Tea Shop

I finally got my hands on some OLD white tea. I’ve had a number of 2008 white teas, which is the more common older aged white tea you can find, especially for pressed whites. The Chinese Tea Shop in Vancouver, Canada has a 1990s and 1980s Shou Mei white tTea and I purchased both. Today I will be drinking the 1990s Shou Mei white tea. White tea this old is expensive. I bought them to taste the potential of ageing a white tea. If I like how this tastes, I can hide kilos of young cheaper white tea for over 20… Continue reading, hoot!

2013 Gongmei White Tea from White2Tea

I bought a sample of White2Tea’s 2013 Gongmei White around the time of its release, promptly lost the sample bag, then went on a 45 minute rampage through my tea space trying to find it. It should have been in my review basket, but it was shoved in a tin with black teas. White2tea’s 2013 Gongmei is a Fuding white tea, stored also in Fujian in natural/dry storage. Researching white tea drives me crazy. The order of quality/grading of white tea goes Baihao Yinzhen aka Silver Needle (buds), Bai Mu Dan aka White Peony (buds and leaves), GongMei, and ShouMei, the… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Secret Forest Wild White Tea from Essence of Tea

I am in love with Essence of Tea’s 2017 Secret Forest Wild White tea that I had to buy it again when 2018 batch came. Sadly, 2018 Secret Forest Wild White Tea is in loose leaf only so I ended up with 2 monster bags of fluffy white tea totaling 200 grams. Leaf and Steeping Method The dry leaf is spaciously nutty with a strong scent of fruity floral candy. I jammed 1 gram of tea leaf per 20ml of vessel size. In this small gaiwan I used 3 grams of leaf. I’ve drunk this tea a number of times… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Jingmai Sun-Dried Three Aroma Bai Mu Dan White Tea from Yunnan Sourcing

I purchased 2018 Jingmai Sun-Dried Three Aroma Bai Mu Dan on a recommendation, and I went all in at a 250 gram bag because that’s how I roll with white tea. My brain auto thinks I need puer cake weight for the long term. By the way, if you have never purchased this much loose white tea before, it is a total PITA due to the volume it takes. I need to find a way to store this stuff. Leaf and Steeping Instructions Jingmai Sun-Dried Three Aroma is a rustic chunky stemmy leaf with mostly wide green leaves with some… Continue reading, hoot!

2018 Myanmar White Tea

I got this amazing White Tea from Myanmar at the 2018 World Tea Expo. This was one of the best teas I had at the whole tea expo. This puppy was expensive too, at $55 for 75 grams as it is old tree “secret garden” material. Leaf and Steeping Method The material is gorgeously fluffy. I used 1 gram of leaf to 20ml of vessel size. I prefer thickly walled gaiwans or dedicated high-temperature retention/fired teapots for white teas. I did not rinse the tea here. The hot wet leaf smells like daffodils. The tea is ultra clear and pristine… Continue reading, hoot!
