2018 Myanmar White Tea

I got this amazing White Tea from Myanmar at the 2018 World Tea Expo. This was one of the best teas I had at the whole tea expo. This puppy was expensive too, at $55 for 75 grams as it is old tree “secret garden” material. Leaf and Steeping Method The material is gorgeously fluffy. I used 1 gram of leaf to 20ml of vessel size. I prefer thickly walled gaiwans or dedicated high-temperature retention/fired teapots for white teas. I did not rinse the tea here. The hot wet leaf smells like daffodils. Aged White Tea Comparison from Healthy-Leaf

Healthy-Leaf has an excellent aged white tea selection. I previously reviewed their 2009 Bask in the Sun, which was awesome. They have 2017 through to 2008 aged white teas. Today we will be drinking a 2015, 2011, and a 2008 Old White Tea.  All three white teas are Lao Bai Chas. Not much information on each besides year and the 2015 white is organic and wild. 2017 Secret Forest Sheng Puer and White from Essence of Tea

Back in 2017 I did my first Essence of Tea order. I made a very calculated, review-read heavy buy as Essence of Tea is on the pricey side, and a bit more unexplored for me. I snagged 2017 Secret Forest sheng, but more so because I was buying the 2017 Secret Forest White, which is the same material processed differently. White Anastasia, BB Detox, and Jasmine Green from Kusmi Tea

A few weeks back, I reviewed the Russian Blends collection, a set of 5 Earl Grey teas, which I selected to review. More often than not, when a tea company contacts me, I choose the teas I want to write about. Moonshine White and Sunlight White from White2Tea

I have been in white tea obsession mode these days, buying up all sorts of white tea to put into the Owl Aging Vault (which is just a cookie tin). Today, let’s try White2tea’s Moonshine and Sunlight White teas. I steeped both teas side by side in 200F/93C water, 1 gram of leaf to 20ml vessel size ratio. White2Tea’s Moonshine White Moonshine White is a Yue Guang Bai (YGB)/Moonlight white, that is a shade dried white tea. This Moonlight white is made of a cultivar tea that is usually for puer. 2012 Tribute White Tea from Bana Tea Company

Bana Tea Company has some really good non-puer teas. Their Moonlight White from Jingmai is killer so am I pumped to see Bana Tea with some more white teas. With my last Bana Tea order, I slipped a box of 2012 Tribute White in. 2012 Tribute white is a Fuding, Fujian white tea. I volunteer myself as tribute, let’s drink this! Bamboo Dove from White2Tea

Because I’m crazy, I blind purchased an entire Bamboo Dove. Bamboo Dove is the same tea as White2Tea’s 2017 Turtle Dove but processed like traditional bamboo stuffed puer, and then roasted over a fire. White2Tea only sells Bamboo Dove by the 50 grams, but contact them and they’ll find a full piece for you. I ended up with a 336gram chunk. It is 13″/33cm long and 2″/5cm in diameter. 2009 Bask in the Sun White Tea from Healthy Leaf

Healthy Leaf has an impressive aged white selection and I happen to have a bunch of samples. Let’s start off with a bang with one of the fancier aged white teas in their shop! 2009 Bask in the Sun Ri Sha Cha is a Fuding region Baimudan. January 2018 White2Tea Club feat 2008 Menghai Puer, 2013 Baimudan, and Little O

New year, new teas! The January White2Tea Club included samples of new teas available in their shop – 2008 Menghai Sheng Puer, 2013 Baimudan White Tea, and Little O Ripe Puer. White2Tea 2008 Menghai Sheng Dry leaf and Steeping Method: White2Tea was pretty generous to give us 50 grams. I had 2 big cake chunks and it was easy to flake the puer into individual leaves. Not too much scent from the dry leaf. September 2017’s White2Tea Club came with Auburn Black, Jinngu White tea buds, and three x 8 gram mini cakes of 2017 Turtle Dove. I have reviewed 2017 Turtle Dove already, so we will skip that today and drink the black and white tea.
