2020 Foxdown Black Tea from White2tea

I’ve always had my eye on White2tea’s 2020 Foxdown black tea, but I was waiting for the next season of teas. However, it was announced the cakes were in low stock, so I panicked purchased a cake blind along with some other goodies. At this time of writing, there are only Foxdown minis left. 2020 Foxdown is a Yunnan, bud heavy, sun dried black tea, promised to be malty daily drinker. Leaf and Steeping Method What a gorgeous golden bud cake with a malty dark scent. For gongfu style, I used 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size,… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 March White2tea club feat. Liubao Laochapo Comparison

The 2021 March White2tea club is a wild one! Enclosed was Liubao Laochapo in both fresh and roasted forms, as well as Three Spot Guanyin. It has been a while since the last Liubao in the club, so happy to try something different. Three Spot Guanyin This Fujian Tieguanyin has a honey roasted scent, pretty close to smelling like Cheerios. I used around 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, and after a boiling rinse, the leaves give off a fruity nutty scent. Three Spot Guanyin has nutty milk, honey, and a bruised nectarine taste, with a floral… Continue reading, hoot!

2020 Sentinel Black Tea from White2tea

White2tea’s 2020 Sentinel black tea was highly recommended to me, so during a previous order, I purchased a sample. 2020 Sentinel is an old arbor large leaf varietal that is sun dried. Leaf and Steeping Method The leaf has an apricot and honey scent. The compression is on the tighter size here, but I also got the beenghole sample. I used around 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size. Once boiling water was introduced to the leaves, Sentinel scent goes more cherries and apricots. Tasting of White2tea’s 2020 Sentinel Black Tea First Infusion: 2020 Sentinel Black tea starts… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 February White2Tea Club feat: 200X Failcorp Shou Puer

White2tea club time! For the 2021 February White2tea club, we got an aged shou, black tea, and a sheng with a little age.  200X Failcorp Shou Puer 200X Failcorp a mystery warehouse/auction find, with the best guess on age, with maybe Jingmai or Bulang material. White2tea has this cake priced at $68 for 357 grams (at the time of writing). The leaves smell like I am working on the garden – lots of dirt and mulch scent – like a dirty rooibos. I used 1 gram of leaf per 15ml of vessel size, steeped in boiling water. After a rinse,… Continue reading, hoot!

2020 Mall Ninja Dojo and Horse Girl Clique from White2Tea

Today’s review is a set of white and black teas from White2tea. Mall Ninja Dojo and Horse Girl Clique are the same puer and sun-dried material from Menghai but processed differently. I purchased samples of both as this will be a fun tea tasting to see the same material in different ways. I enjoyed the names of these teas as they brought back so many memories of the horse girls at school (gosh don’t get in a fight with them talking English or Western saddles) and the characters at the mall sword store. White2tea’s 2020 Mall Ninja Dojo White Tea… Continue reading, hoot!

2021 January White2tea Club feat. Exclusive 2020 Amalgamation of Capitol

The first White2tea club tea of 2021! 2021 January White2tea Club is a 100 gram fire roasted bamboo shou – 2020 Amalgamation of Capitol – exclusive to the tea subscription. Also included is a tea needle for breaking said bamboo shou. Leaf and Steeping Method This was presented well and easy to get into as the top comes off and a bamboo length is already broken. 2020 Amalgamation of Capitol’s scent is mostly of roasted bamboo, along with earth, slightly funky, shou. This won’t be the perfect example of this tea as I’m taking tea from the top, which has… Continue reading, hoot!

2020 Zero Sum White Tea from White2tea

I purchased a cake of White2tea’s 2020 Zero Sum white tea blind. A couple of tea friends said this white tea is excellent, and I have this terrible habit of blind caking all the white teas, regardless if it is over $100 a cake/ $0.50+ a gram. Since posting my haul photos to Instagram, I’ve gotten a number of requests for a review of this tea. I see White2tea doesn’t have much stock left and I dislike posting reviews of teas that are out of stock (as they are just a selfish post to myself to refer to when I… Continue reading, hoot!

2020 December White2tea Club feat. XXXmas Sheng Puer

Last year I mixed up the White2tea club order so I can drink the yearly, club only, XXXmas huangpian sheng puer near Christmas. My 2020 December White2tea club arrived on Christmas Eve, and I really like my teas to rest from shipping. This tea had 3 weeks of rest – not enough for my liking but at least I got a baseline for it fresh. ‘ Leaf and Steeping Method Well, this is undoubtedly a huangpian – it is so yellow! 2020 XXXmas sheng puer has a light nutty grassy scent. As usual, I went gongfu style with 1 gram… Continue reading, hoot!

2020 November White2tea Club feat. 2020 Old Arbor Autumn Sheng

The 2020 November White2tea club by volume doesn’t have much tea but it is quality! This month has a 50 gram cake of 2020 Old Arbor Autumn Sheng Puer and 25 grams of Yan Hong, a Fujian black tea, both tea club exclusives. 2020 November White2tea Club’s Yan Hong On top of being a Fujian black, this tea comes with 1 year of rest. Over the years I’ve also come to notice a lot of black teas, especially compressed, taste best after a year. That is something you’ll want to taste yourself as I know some who dislike black teas… Continue reading, hoot!

2020 October White2tea Club feat. 2020 Saturday Mass

It is 2020 October White2tea club time! This month has two teas available for purchase and two club exclusives. I am skipping the 2020 Hot Brandy minis and squirreling them away for travel. 2020 Saturday Mass Chenpi Shou Puer The 2020 October White2tea club has a single 7g mini of Saturday Mass. This tea is a shou blended with aged chenpi/orange, which is a part of their small-batch shou collection. The tea mini has a gentle orange scent. I used the whole 7 gram mini in a ~100ml gaiwan, steeped with boiling water, gongfu style. Rinsed, Saturday Mass has an… Continue reading, hoot!
