2021 April White2tea Club feat. 2021 Greens

2021 April White2tea club took its sweet time to arrive and shipping delays give me flashbacks to last year. This month in the club is fresh green tea and liubao! Also included is more of the lovely Yan hong, which I will skip as it was in a previous club box. Admittedly, I fear green tea month and have skipped in the past as I just do not like green tea. Again, I was too lazy to skip, so here I am.

2021 Spring Liubao from 2021 April White2tea Club

Yet another fresh liubao. The scent is unusually floral for a liubao, but it looks like one.

I treated it like a sheng, so a ratio of 1 gram per 15ml vessel size, gongfu’d in boiling water. After a rinse, the tea smells buttery, floral, and grassy, making me recoil in fear that this is green tea.

First, Second, and Third Infusion: My brain melted, as looked like a liubao but now it is a green tea. The profile is buttery, chestnuts, peanut shells, and hay, with a melted butter texture – all quite green tea like – but has the chest thumping punch of young sheng. Quickly I am getting hype body feeling from this tea.

Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Infusion: Quickly, the young liubao took a dive and is astringently bitter but has a rich peanut taste, corn cobs, and roasted nuts, fitting experiences with some of the yellow tea I’ve had. The final infusion was insanely bitter and undrinkable for me.

Comments

2021 Spring Liubao is a weird tea that blurs between heicha, yellow, and green but with the body feel of young sheng. I am not sure if I like it or not, as a heicha / puer lover and green tea hater. This was a unique tea experience I haven’t had or seen opportunities to try.

2021 Cloud Mist Green from 2021 April White2tea Club

The leaves smell like shortbread cookies that have gingerbread and jasmine. As much as I hate on green tea, it photographs beautifully!

I used 1 gram of leaf per 25ml, knocking the temperature down to 194f/ 90c. After a rinse, Cloud Mist Green smells of acidic grass.

At first, Cloud Mist Green is light and sweet, tasting gently of gingerbread cookie and juicy grass stems. The texture is slick to drink, and a whole lot of chill energy.

As this fresh green tea opens up, it is fresh creamy grass and more cookie vibes. This tea is making me miss those dang good biscuits/ cookies I bought at Heathrow airport.

The final fifth infusion is tangy, astringent but fresh grass with cookie aftertaste.

Comments

Despite my peculiar tea tastes, Cloud Mist is a fresh green tea with impeccable notes, texture, and a relaxing feeling. If you love your green tea, well I hope you already got some – White2tea already did their limited-time green tea offerings, and that was the best time to buy.
