Sunday Tea Hoots 39 – Anniversary Octopus Teapot

April 13th was my 5th wedding anniversary to my Tea Hating Husband. Both this year and the day we got married landed on a Friday, haha! I didn’t receive wood or silver, which are the traditional anniversary gifts (who makes that stuff up?), I got an octopus teapot. From afar, it looks more like a work of art than a teapot. Before I was a big owl obsessed person, I quite like octopi as they are tasty and strange looking. Admittedly, it functionally is a questionable as the lid is small so it is hard to add tea leaves or clean. The… Continue reading, hoot!

Sunday Tea Hoots 38: Will it Tea Egg?

Hoot, Happy Easter and April 1st 2018! It is a perfect time to find what makes the perfect tea egg! My favorite Tea Egg recipe is from Culinary Tea which makes a picture perfect Tea Egg. Tea Eggs are made with hard boiled eggs cracked and boiled/marinated in soy sauce, sugar, various spices, and tea. A post shared by Char (@oolongowl) on Feb 4, 2015 at 11:43am PST The tea in the Tea Egg doesn’t vary too much as generally black tea is used. Lapsang Souchong is generally the best, though cheffy, Tea Egg tea. I have substituted in some… Continue reading, hoot!

Sunday Tea Hoots 37 – Starting the Fukien Tea Bonsai Adventure

I saw a bonsai catalog before Christmas and fell in love with the idea of having a bonsai tree next to my tea table. I enjoyed when I had flowers at my tea table (until they died). I also had some bulbs that bloomed, which looked amazing until they died. I am pretty bad with plants, despite being enthusiastic about owning many of them. I seem to do well with succulents (especially when I lived in SoCal), but I am good at murdering all herbs. Christmas came, and I got a Fukien Tea bonsai! TEA! So cool! It was shipped to… Continue reading, hoot!

Sunday Tea Hoots 36 – Dental Work and Tea Taste

In a rush to use all my dental insurance, as well as having a broken tooth, I got a whole slew of dental work done at the end of 2017. Every week I was going in for a new section of fillings or sealants to be placed. What I found was weird (besides me reacting badly each time to numbing shots) is how dental work affected taste. Each time I had dental work it bothered me enough that I don’t do any tea review tea drinking or drink good tea for a couple days.  For me, I found the sealant leaves… Continue reading, hoot!

2017 Tea Consumption and Stash Data Report

Hello 2018! It is time for the yearly Oolong Owl tea stash report! For some, it is the yearly reference material to show to your significant other that your own tea stash isn’t that bad. For others, a case study of an owl’s hoarding of tea. If you want to learn more about my spreadsheets – Tea Stash Spreadsheet | Tea Consumption Spreadsheet. Here is a template of my Tea Stash Spreadsheet! Save a copy and start keeping track of your stash. Do it before your tea stash gets out of control! 2017 was a crazy year as I had a big DIY kitchen remodel that… Continue reading, hoot!

Hooty Tea Travels – 2017 Los Angeles: Denong Tea and Cheese Tea

Despite living in the Los Angeles area for around 4 years, I didn’t write about local tea things outside the Los Angeles Tea Festival. I recently came back from Los Angeles and made sure to hit a number of tea things. Admittedly, I didn’t do much tea things other than the local tea festival when I lived in LA. Los Angeles is a car cultured sprawl at the mercy of traffic. I sat in around 4 hours of traffic visiting all three of my tea stops, and I wasn’t driving during rush hour. Denong Tea I met Denong Tea back… Continue reading, hoot!

Daintree Tea and Tim Tam Slams

Austrailian Tea Special! I’ve tried Daintree Tea before, but it was fairly old loose leaf not stored well. My husband’s coworker recently came back from Australia and I was given a Wallaby and a sample box of Daintree tea bags. Around the same time, I got a package from Influenster (they send free products for review, I mostly signed up for makeup swag) to review some unexpected random crap like a tin of corn, tub of margarine, fried jalapenos, and a package of Tim Tams. I’ve heard about Tim Tams as being an Aussie fav treat. I recently saw Tim Tams at… Continue reading, hoot!

Sunday Tea Hoots 35 – Tea with TeaDB

I have tea with James from TeaDB once in a while since we live in the Seattle area. I met up with him soon after I moved to Seattle and learned he is a super chill and seems to not mind my gossipy hooting. If you aren’t familiar with TeaDB, James and Denny mostly do video tea review content, and you need to check them out especially if you are a puer person. Teadb.org is a site I personally have been following regularly for years as the written content is knowledgeable and thorough as well as they drink stuff I… Continue reading, hoot!

Sunday Tea Hoots 34 – Kitchen Renovation

For all of October and November, I’ve been mostly DIY’ing my kitchen and flooring. I’ve spent most October demolishing and prepping everything for flooring and cabinets. November will be laying down flooring, building cabinets, installing countertops and applicances. The Tea Owls love DIY! Owl hardwood floor inspection. That is some nice maple. We took down a wall in the room. The Tea Owls were crawling up in attics. Ceiling Owl confirmed the wall that was there was not structural. I have been so busy, that I am impressed that I am still able to roll out regular Oolong Owl posts. The amount… Continue reading, hoot!

Hooty Tea Travels – 2017 Northwest Tea Festival Seattle

Of all the public tea festivals I’ve been to, the Northwest Tea Festival is the most epic, busy, and has the most interesting of tea selections. The Northwest Tea Festival is certainly worth attending if you wanted to travel for tea. I went to both days of the tea festival! Both days had a huge line to get in! I arrived 30-40 minutes early and I still waited 15 minutes in the Will Call line after the doors opened. That said, once I did get inside the festival was quiet, but it slowly filled up with people. I did most… Continue reading, hoot!
